  1. The good doc dai had just sent me the latest digital copy of E @ T magazine which states that the caa has recently released its present consultation about flying cars, vertical take off and landing taxis from the thousands of UK airfields. TWitter ???? does not seem to want to open on my cheapo internet phone, but may do in the library tommorrow. may prove to be an interesting read.....
  2. Apparently football pitches come in different sizes ?

    Radio 4

Multi rotor section, so probably the nearest section to a drone on here. No I will not wash my mouth out with soap thank you. Ditty on radio 4 five o clock news... "The government have banned the use of drones within 400 metres of prisons to stop the means of transporting phones and drugs to the inmates....." I wonder how that is going to work. There was something on the tely about WiFi jammers etc very recently. About 20 bendy aerials atop a "box". Jams everything ( everything ?! ) For up to 500 meters, even more probably... WiFi security cameras knocked out etc , old school hard wired uneffected.....progress eh.
  4. Wow Simon, just wow.. Do you fly that in a park, probably not. Would love to see that in flight . Lemons, a bit of a bad name but have heard they are good, and at a fantastic price too. If Rx was new and faulty, every form of production can have problems, crap happens, send it back. I would contact manufacturer/importer to keep them in the loop. It also helps the shop. If Rx number two ( same model and manufacturer etc. ) Was new and faulty, coincidence, crap happens. Again, contact manufacturer/importer etc., I am sure they would be interested... If Rx number 3, new, was faulty, this would suggest something is quite wrong, possibly very wrong, needing an in depth investigation, possibly a recall even Find one insect, expect to find a million. I have absolutely a feeling these comments will be pooh poohed quite shortly. Free speech and all that, a principle I support " to the hilt".
  5. Sorry toto, you did mention rage rather than thrash it out.... I wonder what the purpose of the two recent "call for input" surveys by the caa were about ? To get a feel of what interested parties think, so Caa can judge what would be acceptable by interested parties....perhaps ? A reaction. Reactive response.... Might a proactive response be better ? Let's face it Caa can do what the hell they like. A "maybe " opening word with a closing question mark means ? Anybody ? "Or would that be tempting fate too much .....' etc. Offers a possibility of what may happen, possibly ? The caa "Call for input" document was "talked about", "debated", a discussion on a forum which got quite heated iiRc. A clear definition is needed in my view to allow a proper judgement to be made as to site suitabiliy etc. Etc. Etc.... Or just wait for local bye laws to catch up. Bye laws can be worded so as not to ban model flying as such, but to ban the use of "radio equipment" meaning ghetto blasters/boomboxes etc.. In reality a multi edged sword, just what officialdom wants... As to being " hysterical"... Anyways, opinions.......what Constitutes s parkfly.... What constitutes a safe area to fly a "park fly "...
  6. Hyde park, regents park, play school kids park..... As usual, a clear definition is needed, by the powers that be, in the UK. An American definition is ok for USA but remember they drive on the wrong side of the road. Toto did say "thrash it out' ? Maybe an acceptable definition could be established here and presented to the powers that be ? Or would that be tempting fate too much, they would only come back with an unsuitable impractical useless definition, or a complete ban of model flying in/on/over a public place. That the latter would certainly be the easiest, Well are virtually at that point at the moment.
  7. Under 250 gram yes... Are your volunteering to be a "target" for a charity event GG ? Pilot pays £5 per hit, £50 if blood seen, monies raised for sir ambulance...only joking, but I did find your comment about not minding being hit by a toy/park flier rather.......odd. Yes park fliers, Snowdonia national park is quite big ! I do not know SNP policy on model flying, I will have a look, buy of its not mentioned, I will let " gelert" sleep in peace. A clear consise and easy to understand, by everyone, definition of a toy RC aircraft and 'park fly" RC aircraft would be good, for UK application. There probably is, bmfa/caa, but I have yet to find it. There is a web address mentioned in bumpf printed off in library on Friday.
  8. Small phones that will fit in a pocket.... Where is the street cred and status symbol in that ? Sprayed on jeans and the £500 fashion accessory just asking to be nicked or bent... I keep my cheapo Tesco phone well hidden and secure.
  9. Thanks rich, that's even more of an encouragement..... Yes your vidio shows a beautifull bit of coastline, north cornish coast ? National trust site ? These sorts of places need to become known about by bmfa so they can be protected for this activity, but the models have/uses Motors ? Cilan is national trust all the way round I believe ? I did contact NT in a very general enquiry about a site quite local to me but got no reply at all. Maybe I should contact Andy Symon for his/bmfa view and take on the site of interest... A bag of sweets for later in the year I feel.
  10. Also, is there a ripmax sticker, price on box, and any indication as to year ? When was the more or less transition year from loop scavenge deflector piston type to shnerle porting type for model 2t glow engines, late 70's...? Cox engines were made in their millions way before the 70's.....did they know something os did not ? Or is a Cox bb 049 a baffleless loop scavenge type engine ? I will ask on cef... Model diesel ( ci ) engines had already gone down the shnerle route many years before, possibly from the very beginning, apart from fixed compression types ??? Shnerle porting had been about for some time in the non model engine world at that time...the late 70's......
  11. East riding, a few miles from the coast... Sounds idilic GG, firm sand large skied deserted beaches with good tall sand dune systems ? God how I wish I was living "back home", but the reasons for relocating were very valid at the time. Please god, just enough of a lottery win, I would be a good voluntarily church warden etc.. Oh, and a jet pack to attend to the church clock hands, they were stuck at 10:55 last time I was there....
  12. Bin it !!!!!! ? No.......!!!!!!!!!! Yes, Barton site, or give it to mikeq...... The box says RC ? If not, ( strangled exhaust ? ) The inlet casting looks as if it could be Rc'd relatively easily ? Don't bin it, giving it to someone ( even for a fiver ) who would use it, makes much better sense, to me at any rate.
  13. Keep the faith toto, you will get there, etc....
  14. In the vidio, the planes were flown rather low down the "gentelish" slope but enough lift was present to gain hieght reliably... My local slope is about as about as gentle but cilan headland is basically coastal cliffs, a little peninsula if you like near end of the llyn near bardsey. Bags of lift there, fantastic slope soaring site. Well worth the visit. Lovely air, lovely views, lovely people, lovely model flying.
  15. The Cream..... Perhaps a more basic ( less to go wrong ! ?? ) 3 channel motor glider and/or a sloper version, kit or all hand made, may have been a better introduction, but toto seems time poor and sufficiently cash rich... In this hobby you have to have the mentality that you may be taking home your model in a bin bag, or warming your self by a "Viking funeral" at the field. I have been known to drag broken models from the flying field bin, to fly again, but I was time rich and cash poor at the time. Yes, laugh, better than crying, like the chap who watched his beautifull large vintage soarer, which must have taken at least 100 hours to make, serenely and rock steady float out over hell's mouth on its way to bardsey ......." No control, *!1t ! " He said........ We completely lost sight of it after about 5 mins. I do reckon it landed on bardsey. Keep the faith toto, you will get there. Get at least two foamies up and running reliably, then spend some time on your force engine to learn reliable setting up and installation In your reliably reconned " arising star" was it, and fly the socks off that as well. I still think a basic sloper is the best way into this hobby, but of course you need a slope. Mine was cilan headland ( thanks mum in law, 50 ish miles from home ) then egryn abbey ( thanks robin ) slope by the rabbit Warren, about 3 miles from home, crusader r + e 72inch veneered foam wings, cheapest kit at the time. I still have a pair of wings and the plan. Fancy making a "my home brew" toto, minimum balsa and covering, r + e, a good week of two hours per evening ? Sloper, small electric ( 3 channel, George's 4 Max value pack ) or small IC ( 3 channel ), even a bungee or towed launch.... These days, electric powered, but the battery is heavy.... Anyways, keep plugging away toto, problem solving makes you stronger and more experienced, have a great day. Ps, does bachmann mean anything to you by chance ?
  16. Rubbing off the numbers on the back of your bank card, good idea...number easy to remember, easy to write down and store is your secret place at home, hidden in plain sight.
  17. I think quite a few of us are eagerly awaiting the plans and article on these two models that fly well from a slope etc.. For myself smaller models are a better option these days but I still have a few larger ones...
  18. Defy the gods, no!!!!!!!!!? Sometimes a " please god..." works wonders, or is that a double diamond ?
  19. You really are having a run of bad luck toto. See the "shifty" thread, particularly the vidio..... When things get you down a bit toto, walk away, close the shed door and de-stress with a js and a jps.....tommorrow is a new day.
  20. Dog collar with "shocker" and camera all controlled by the phone ? 😁 Disgusting, collect it and put it thru the dog owners letterbox.....
  21. £6 an hour ! Blimmey, £60 an hour in our "community" sports hall for " special activities".....😭 I know why, any function in the sports hall/community centre means the rooms will need cleaning ( even if cleaned by the group making the mess ) and servicing, meaning the staff will have to actually do some work. Complaints have gone in from variouse parties but never make it past "the committee'.... Upset one person in the village, you effectively upset HALF the village ! £6 an hour, real bargain, even £6 per hour per person is not that expensive.
  22. Hi Andy, which particular plan/issue of rcme ? Some rcme free plans just don't interest me.....so may be available.... Plan in outerzone ? Over to you sir, and others....
  23. Hi burls, Visit ransomes website for exploded views of parts book, also get a wiring diagram... Again, flywheel mag, flywheel mag with cb points, CDI ignition system, dead man handle..... Can you gain access to flywheel area, any windows in flywheel to see what's underneath perhaps ? Electric start, reg/rec ? Reg/rec.....regulator/rectifier..... I take it she will NOT start/run.... Side valve, ohv, ohc ??? Seven years is well long enought for stuff it stick, like VALVES, but you have been cranking it ( and no doubt the air has been "blue" from time to time 😃 ) so if damage was to be done, it's probably done now. Any compression, does engine have very tight spots/horrible noises ? Can you get acitone locally ? Enjoy and remember, a "please god....' can work miracles sometimes...😸
  24. Hi Sam, come back with brief progress etc. When you are ready. Rcme, radio control models ( of all types ? But mainly flying ones ) and electronics ( related to RC models, mainly flying ones ) .....
  25. Wwww, sounds interesting Peter, another thing to chase up in library on Monday. Thanks in advance...
