I don’t think there is a charging fault, there is the expected 14v going into the battery once it’s fired up. There is some form of option to use the main battery for such as camping accessories, to stop discharging the aux 12v but that does not help in this scenario as firing up the main ecu needs 12v in the aux

I saw the YouTube of James locked out his Tesla, getting at the battery in a Tesla a nightmare compared to the Kia. I can see the Suns headline now. Mum and 2 year old locked in EV

Hmm, wonder what the Sun would pay for the story!

I think the 12v battery is not up to task, the cars nearing 2 years, the 12v battery was replaced by Kia after a year after repeated issues with dead car and discharged battery, it seems to have a hard time and was dud after a year, maybe this is happening with the replacement as well, I will get my meter on it and see if retaining a full charge ok. the doors will unlock in a crash, but this will rely on power to release the central locking as it does in most cars these days. the issue here was that the central locking had been activated before the battery died, I believe my daughter had got in the car and was answering some work call for a while before attempting to move off, they would have struggled to get into the boot as it was full and there were kiddy seats in the back as well, so much for the “hidden” safety release! the Sun would have a great time with this, as they seem to splash anything true or not in there anti EV stance

I am not familiar enough with the Niro to know. However the doors did not work inside or out, once power was restored there was a click as the doors released and access was restored.

I received an SOS call from my daughter who was locked in her Kia Niro EV with her 2 Year old. The aux battery had died, it had run down , reason unknown and powering up the computer and car had caused the voltage to drop off completely and everything powers off. Nothing works, doors and windows cannot be opened. the ,fix, from experience is to jump the aux battery so the voltage is sufficient to fire up the computer, once the car is in on mode the main battery will charge the aux battery and you can then open the doors etc, all a bit scary. I measured the voltage on the aux battery before the jump and it was 8.6v , very dead! Once activated it receives 14.8v charge voltage. Lucky on the Kia the aux battery is easily accessible on at least there someone in the car to operate the bonnet release.
  7. These are the 3d printed versions I used on my cub, there are based on the Fun Cub mpx version, If any one wants the stl files to print there own please message me. the use and M2 hex bolt and nut as the hinge.
  8. I did note that my HK EU Lipo order which arrived today, in the post had the full EU declaration and low a behold a VAT invoice , but showing 0%, so HK are not collecting VAT on UK sales and RM seems to have given up collecting it as well. Banggood and AliExpress orders are all VAT paid on purchase under £135. no Lipo warning labels on package which is a bit naughty
  9. I have experimented with a Tile token, they have the advantage of being self powered by its own battery. Effective range is 30 -50 m at most depending on terrain. You could boost a search area if other people have the tile app loaded as they will detect and notify on lost tiles. It has a value but my opinion is they are of limited value at £12 a go. I have had notifications from other Tile users when driving through a local town, it triggered an alert when detected by another tile user showing me the location, I had forgotten to turn of the ‘lost’ on the app after experiments!!! So they do work. I find more effective are the lost model beepers, a couple of quid a go, you will probably hear it at a 100m, but they do rely on the model battery, if that comes detached in the crash you loose the beep.
  10. Inkscape has an extension called Gcode tools, this will produce code to run a cnc. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials on this. I actually use Lightburn for laser cutting, it’s worth the small amount of money for the licence as it contains many useful feature to fine control the cutting
  11. Hi Trevor, That is the modern day FAA registration number, would not have been present in is wartime livery. Tim
  12. I have a tube over 12mths old which is still fine
  13. Brilliant stuff if a bit smelly. Sticks most things including difficult plastics, unlike epoxy glue, setting times around 10 mins, ideally needs to be warm. Use instead of epoxy for most applications
  14. Try Grosgrain ribbon, available in 3mm and 6mm wide, eBay has plenty
