  1. Thanks for the replies everyone. I had thought that the ASP would likely be similar in performance but had nothing technical to back it up. Might noise be an issue... maybe... do I make it an electric setup...? I'm just not sure I could to that to myself! Thanks again everyone!
  2. Good day all, Quick question regarding the two above engines. I'm intending to begin a build soon from a slightly older plan which requires an OS Max 25FP. This is a discontinued engine and I was wondering how the ASP 21 compares. I know OS have a more recent alternative, but i want the round cylinder head as I want to replicate to give the illusion of a replica radial engine. Thanks in advance
  3. That’s great, thanks for the replies. Maybe I was over thinking it... can I assume the washout would result in a straight line from tip to root?
  4. Evening all, Some advice please. I have a top flute p47 that I’ve been building on and off for ever. I’m just getting back into it and I’ve previously snapped off the wing rib alignment tabs, it I’ve not sheeted the top of the wing yet. I’m assuming I’m going to have a job getting the correct wing washout now... any thoughts or suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance
  5. Having spent all my adult life up until now in the forces, moving house is second nature! We always saw it as a great way to declutter as everything has to be moved anyway so might as well bin what you haven't used in the last few years. I know that we always ended up with piles of stuff for charity, ebay, tip, family etc etc etc, and if you've got the time then great, otherwise you just have to be ruthless and for the headache a few quid gained from ebay, you may as well just get rid of asap - tip! As for moving the stuff, we have tried everything from doing it all ourselves, to having the company come in, pack, move and unpack the other end. Our last (hopefully for a very long time) move was from Northampton UK to Ottawa Canada and we had a full pack and unpack service. I couldn't have asked for more. I had several airframes in various states of completion, plus a heli plus all my kits and tools etc and not one stick of balsa was even dented after 3291 miles and 3 months in storage. Definitely the way to go! Plus they can do it 10x quicker than you or I could, just because they have all the gear and they do it all day every day. In our whole move to Canada one garden chair got damaged when I stuck the knife in too far to unwrap it. That was it, not crockery or glassware broken, no ornaments, pictures - nuffn.
  6. i've been fortunate enough to aquire a gently used sc30 fs which I reckon to be the perfect power plant for a model I read about years ago... It was called Amelia and designed by Dereck Woodward. It was featured in Radio Modeller in the early 90s. I've found the plan I ordered a few years ago, but can't find my copy of the magazine with the article in it. I don't suppose anyone has a copy to hand that they could scan the build article in and send to me please? Here's hoping! Thanks Graham
  7. OK, That definitely sounds preferable to the sort of surgery I had in mind. And if it's recommended by the man himself then it must be a good solution. Many thanks for your time, I'll do a bit of investigating... Graham
  8. That does sound interesting... I think I'm going to have a go at lowering the tank, I've got an idea of how to do it and still keep the strength up at the front. Although I'm not sure I'll be able to squeeze the 11oz tank I've got in without some serious surgery - still achievable though. The Laser website recommends a 9oz tank for the 100 engine. What sort of a flight time would be achievable with this (gentle sport pottering around)? This would be an easier fit, but I don't want to go for that at the expense of reasonable flight times. Any help appreciated Thanks Graham
  9. Hi all, I've just bought a Laser 100 to fit into a Topflite P47, I've just offered it up to the fuselage and without any accurate measurements it looks like the carb will end up around 60mm below the tank centre line... Looks like some serious work to get the tank any lower because the wing will be in the way - does anyone think this will be a serious problem? Or does anyone have any ideas to line them up better? Thanks Graham
  10. Thanks everyone for your time in replying... All the engines mentioned I've considered at some point, I'm definitely in agreement with the 20cc and not having to go full chat all the time. I'll do a bit more research before I part with any cash then, because there is always a laser 100...
  11. Thanks for your response John, Was just wondering as the P47 suggests a 91 - 120 four stroke... would the NGH fit in that range do you think? Thanks
  12. Evening all, I'm trying to think of a power source for a my new kit a Top Flite P47 which is still very much on the building board. I'm thinking the NGH 17CC seems like a good combination of value and power for the project, but would welcome any theories or queries... Thanks Graham
  13. Thanks for all the great suggestions! It looks like the BritFlight range would take some beating on price, and I did have my eye onthe Fun Cub... I'm just looking to get something to get me in the air. I love building, but don't want to commit myself to anything too tricky and challenging as I don't know whether I'll be able to package it safely enough to cope with a house move back to the UK from Canada in 2 years time... Definite food for thought.
  14. Hi all, I've recently had to move with work, which has left all my modelling bits including planes in storage for a couple of years. I'd quite like fly in the 2 years until i get my gear out of storage, but the question is what plane do I go for? I've got my transmitter (spektrum DX6i) with me but nothing else. There is not a club anywhere close, but I have plenty of suitable areas around to fly on my own, but am struggling to find somwhere smooth enough for a landing strip (still may be able to locate something with some more hunting). So, I'm thinking, something I can belly land, something electric (all nitro gear in storage), something suitable for a beginner (almost at the stage of passing A test), something affordable but also something I'd really want to fly (if you know what I mean...) I'm more than happy to build if that helps with any suggestions. Suggestions please! Thanks
  15. That's a nice looking Puppeteer Stephen!   I decided on the RCV as I (kinda accidently) won one on ebay. When it arrived it was a lovely looking piece of kit which runs so sweetly - at least on the test bench. I've got it ready to drop into my four star 40 when I finally get around to finishing it, so I think I'll treat myself to another for the Puppeteer...   I also thought that because of its slightly smaller dimensions than a normal four stroke that i'd fit inside the cowling nicely without having to hack the beautifully machined metalwork to pieces.   If I'm barking up the wrong tree I'm open to suggestions!
  16. Hi Andy, did you have any luck finishing your puppeteer? I've just bought one (from Pegasus Models - Amazing service!!!) and I intend to fit an RCV 58 too. Was it a good combination? Any more from your blog or any more pics would be gratefully received!
  17. Hi guys, I'm away from home this weekend, but could do with picking up a couple of bits, could anyone point me in the right direction of a good model shop in the west midlands?  I'm in the Banbury / Leamington Spa area but am willing to travel within reason... Thanks in advance Graham
  18. Thanks guys! I was looking for the specific leg, which is why I'd had no luck, I'm sure one of those will do very nicely! David, I'd be inclined to agree with you, they are a pain to align aren't they, and one heavyish landing and they're completely out of line again - as I have found out numerous times!
  19. Hi, Does anyone know where I can get an Irvine Tutor 40 nose leg from? I've scoured the internet and my local model shop and no luck from either... Thanks in advance Graham
  20. Right, decision made...  I'm gonna go for a Sig Four-Star 40, going to put the OS in it and save the Laser for a Nijhuis Hurricane when building and flying skills allow - hopefully not too long! Thanks for everyones help!
  21. I've been doing a bit more research and I quite like the look of the SIG Somethin' Extra...  Does anyone have any experience of this kit?  I'd quite like the kit version and will then be able to fit the laser in and make any modifications where needed (or do I save that for my Tony Nijhuis Hurricane when my building and flying skills catch up with my daydreams?).   Was thinking that a built up cowl would finish the model off rather than just the blank cheeks that are standard.  O so much to think about!  Would this make a good 3rd model after/alongside my WOT 4? PS the fund manager has authorised funds! - Much easier than expected too!
  22. Hi, Does anyone know if there are any shops in the UK which stock this model, I've been looking for a new plane and would like to have a closer look at this one...  Duggie, did you build yours and how did it fly? Many thanks Graham
  23. BEB,   Great ideas!  Although, if you think the OS will do well in the Pulse then I may go for that, I would love to find a home for the Laser, but think I'll wait till I get the right airframe...    I think the thing to do now is to approach the fund manager and get my justifications for "another new plane" in sharpish...   Wish me luck!   Graham
  24. Thanks very much for all your replies.   BEB, I think you've confirmed what I was fearing.  I had an idea it would requie a bit of surgery to the firewall, but hadn't considered the implications and knock on effects behind that...  Perhaps I should think a bit more then as I'm sure I've not got the skills to carry out this level of modification and with an airframe as good as the Pulse I'm not sure I want to.   I do have a brand new OS 40 too, maybe this coud go in, I just thought that with this being right at the bottom of the engine recommendation the laser would be better as its smack in the middle of the suggested engine sizes.  Stephen, I think that as the laser is a 4 stroke it'd be too light on power for the bigger Pulse.   Or the other idea I had was to put the OS in a SLEC fun fly but wasn't sure how this would perform as its a mid wing design, would it be as much of a progression as a low wing design like the Pulse?   Graham
  25. I'm quite willing to build too if that helps anyone with any suggestions...?
