Chris Bott - Moderator
Silly question Richard, but doesn't an I/C model use up the fuel through the flight? So it needs to be able to fly just as well with the tank empty?
Richard Harris
Chris, Yes, I was just being a bit on the safe side. Rich
Richard Harris
But saying that you just never know if a mistake was made with the CG position? Seems strange that a few are having issues?
Chris Bott - Moderator
yes it does, I put all my issues down to my V tail, but it seems that's fine now the C/g is on the front edge of the spar
Richard Harris
Lets just hope others see this that are in the process of finishing and alter their CG position to the safer option. BEB, sorry for the hijack
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
No need for apologies at all Richard - I think you've hit the nail on the head. If I was to give a bit of advice to anyone finishing off a WebBit now it would be "err on the safe side with the CoG - get it not on the spar, but definaitely in front of the spar". Steven Webb (Steve Webb Models)
Sorry to hear of the crashes, the Pink WebBIt of Froggys I have here is slighly nose down on the spar. If anything that would put it as a touch nose heavy and of course with a fuel tank up front even slightly heavier at the front for some of the flight. Set up on the spar and with lots of movement could be a shock to anyone. PH's model balanced behind the spar and with so much movement I found it very hard to fly. If you wanting fast roll rate and stuff , then set up Expo and all the other mod cons with have now a days, if looking for a more stable flyer I'd conclude a touch nose heavy would make a big difference in the handling. I have to add I prefer calm and relaxed now a days. Do you guys think it would be better to give a COG range. Spar as most rearward and slighly in front for more docile? Steve I think it would be a good idea, as I've already said mine balances just aft of the main spar, and I like loads of movement, but that's just me some would not be comfortable with that setup. May be get everyone to add their setup to get an idea of the limits at each end. Cheers, Chris.
