I am much encouraged with how the teams stand currently. A goodish degree of equality between them. The drivers at present making more of a difference than in the recent past.

I read that Mercedes are heading to the court room, yet again, Red Bull being their target.

Personally I would be at a loss, of who will win out, by the end of the season. It is a well done, to all, it is perhaps less important than for the last 10 years to be good with the predictions, as who will win and who would be second, are apparently no longer a done deal.

I just hope that Russel continues as he has started and is not required to defer to perceived driver order for the team. It lead to a lot of bad feeling with Rosberg, heightened by apparent disregard to pre race agreements.

With the Channel 4 coverage winding down, it's time to post the results from today's race.

In top place today with 156 points is Iqon.

Only 2 points down on 154, taking second place is Ade.

And just another 3 points back on 151, Charles takes 3rd today.

Well done to today's top 3.  What does this mean for the overall table?

Pos League

13 13 1 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 422
14 14 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 417
15 15 0 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 406

So, we have changes at the top of the table!  Tony and Iqon each move up one position to first and second respectively.  They displace Chris 2 places down to third.

Glenn and Zoonie are also moving upwards - a 4-place gain for Glenn and a 5-place gain for Zoonie, taking them to 4th and 5th.  That means that Pete slips 2 places to 6th.

John S has a 4-place gain today, up to 7th, whilst John T is moving 3 places downwards to 8th.

Ade's second place today moves him up 3 places to 9th, whilst GrumpyGnome, Stu and myself are all moving downwards, 4places, 4 places and 3 places respectively, now occupying positions 10 to 12.

Charles and Kev swap places today, with Charles up to 13th and Kev down to 14th.

Simon is our only non-mover in the table today,  but at least his 4th place today narrows the gap somewhat, with 14th only 11 points ahead and 13th just 16 points away.

Next up is Miami in 2 weeks time.  And of course that will be in the evening for us in the UK and Europe.

Don't forget your predictions!

At the end of the season it will be interesting to know if the winner and others, garnered most of their points as a result of team selection or from predictions.

Russel did really well again it appears the car has the power. It was suggested that others who took the flexible floor and wing route, are having a similar problem. Good on Russel though, in that he coped with the issue. Although I find it suspect that the scrutineering process is not able to flag up floors and wings that contravene the deflection allowed when running, or is it a question that the stipulation is a rest only and the claim that some floors and wings break the regulations is wrong?

  • 2 weeks later...

Evening all!

After one race in Europe, F1 has crossed the Atlantic this weekend and has arrived at a new street circuit in Miami.  That means of course that everything happens later in the day for us,  so whilst we do have a little more time than usual, I will still repeat the customary advice;

Don't forget your predictions!

Qualiying is at 9pm UK time tomorrow,  with the race 30 minutes earlier on Sunday.

We've only had one practice session so far, with P2 still well over an hour away and P3 not until 6pm tomorrow.  P1 saw Leclerc setting the fastest time,  but with Russell only 0.071 seconds behind in second, showing signs of improvement for Mercedes.  Hamilton was apparently hampered by traffic and understeer and could only manage 8th fastest.  The two Red Bulls were 3rd and 4th, with Sainz in the second Ferrari 6th, behind Gasly in 5th.

I'm off to do my predictions now - if P2 and P3 make me change my mind then I can of course change them (and then probably later regret doing so!)

Good luck everyone!

The Channel4 coverage should now be well under way,  and hopefully those who didn't watch the race live, and don't want to see the results, are watching that rather than browsing the web!

In which case I will proceed to post our league results today, though I will delay hitting "Submit" until as late as possible!

First,  our results for today's (or rather yesterday's!) race;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 1 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 162
2 12 3 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 162
3 4 2 Revers Racing Pete B 148
4 2 0 Igoronic racing iqon 143
5 5 1 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 140
6 3 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 136
7 6 1 Pitts Specials john stones 136
8 9 0 PSS Power Flyer 127
9 10 1 Torque of the devil Stu 126
10 14 0 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 124
11 8 0 teewrex John Tee 121
12 11 1 LetsGoTotoLetsGo GrumpyGnome 118
13 7 2 Hans Brake Zoonie 111
14 15 2 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 102
15 13 1 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 98

Both Tony and Simon scored 162 points,  and whilst fantasygp lists them as 1st and 2nd respectively I reckon they're joint top.  Pete takes third place with 148 points.

Well done to today's top 3!

Let's see how this changes the overall league positions;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 1 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 718
2 2 0 Igoronic racing iqon 695
3 3 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 656
4 4 2 Revers Racing Pete B 636
5 5 1 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 633
6 6 1 Pitts Specials john stones 618
7 7 2 Hans Brake Zoonie 603
8 8 0 teewrex John Tee 601
9 9 0 PSS Power Flyer 592
10 10 1 Torque of the devil Stu 581
11 11 1 LetsGoTotoLetsGo GrumpyGnome 579
12 12 3 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 568
13 13 1 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 550
14 14 0 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 541
15 15 2 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 524

No change in the top three,  with Tony holding on to top place, Iqon still second and Chris third.

Pete's result today moves him up 2 places to 4th, with Glenn slipping a place to 5th.

John S moves up 1 to 6th, but Zoonie slips down 2 places to 7th.

Further down the table Stu and GrumpyGnome swap places to 10th and 11th respectively, while Simon's result today sees him leap 3 places up to 12th, displacing me down a place to 13th,  and finally Charles slips two places to 15th.

We're back to Europe for the next races,  Spain in two weeks time followed by Monaco a week after.  Don't forget your predictions!

Thanks John P.

As for now (monday morning), the Fantasy site is closed for "Points are being revised following post-race penalties"...

I noticed it yesterday evening as the published results were wrong according to the post-race changes.

I'm afraid John  might have some more work to possibly adapt his league rankings...  ?

Well done Tony & Simon

Tony you fitted an upgrade ? . Your pulling away from me.

It’s a long season and I have no doubt that P1 for Essex Racing will soon come under a lot a pressure once the Mercs find their sweet spot…

Well done Tony and Simon.

Must have had a funny turn as I put Hamilton down for third for some reason after a poor start to the season so only got two out of three podium places, normally get one if I'm lucky.

John

Thanks John ?

Even as I was typing it up last night (well,  this morning, really!) I thought there could well be some "adjustments" required due to post-race penalties being applied...

So,  Sunday's results are now;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 1 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 172
2 11 4 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 171
3 4 2 Revers Racing Pete B 155
4 2 0 Igoronic racing iqon 153
5 5 1 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 143
6 3 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 141
7 9 2 Torque of the devil Stu 135
8 13 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 134
9 8 0 teewrex John Tee 129
10 7 0 Pitts Specials john stones 128
11 6 1 Hans Brake Zoonie 124
12 10 1 PSS Power Flyer 113
13 15 2 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 112
14 12 2 LetsGoTotoLetsGo GrumpyGnome 107
15 14 2 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 89

Our top 3 are still Tony, Simon and Pete - but they've all gained a few points!  Tony got 172 points with Simon 1 point behind and Pete got 155 points.  At the other end of the results table some of us lost points...

Overall the table is now;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 1 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 728
2 2 0 Igoronic racing iqon 705
3 3 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 661
4 4 2 Revers Racing Pete B 643
5 5 1 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 636
6 6 1 Hans Brake Zoonie 616
7 7 0 Pitts Specials john stones 610
8 8 0 teewrex John Tee 609
9 9 2 Torque of the devil Stu 590
10 10 1 PSS Power Flyer 578
11 11 4 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 577
12 12 2 LetsGoTotoLetsGo GrumpyGnome 568
13 13 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 551
14 14 2 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 541
15 15 2 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 534

Most places are unchanged, but Zoonie is now ahead of John S, they are 6th and 7th,  Stu is now ahead of Ade,  Simon's 3-place gain is now a 4-place gain,  and Kev moves ahead of me.

At least there's a lot of races left in the season for me to improve! ?

I have just read that there has been a 30% increase in viewer numbers this season. It appears that the less predictable nature of qualifying and results has been attractive to potential viewers.

Reading the obituary of Tony Brooks highlights the differences in attitude and behaviour from then to the prima-donnas of today. There are piles of toys thrown out of the pram recently.

|I was also surprised that the FIA is reluctant to intervene on the floppy floors (there should be no movable components). I just hope it will not be a case as with DAS steering that they only intervene when other teams introduce their own system, or the flexing front wing components, which were alright for one team, when a sister team introduces the same component (so it was claimed) then it was found to break the regulations.
