Once again with the race being later in the day the Channel4 coverage is still underway, and has an hour and a bit still to run.

I'll again make the assumption that anyone who is watching the Ch4 coverage and doesn't want to know the race results is NOT browsing the web at the same time!  Hopefully they are totally engrossed in the race - as I was, watching it live.

But if anybody is watching the Ch4 coverage, doesn't want to know the results,  and is reading this,  then ? STOP ? NOW!

The results for our league today look like this;

Evening all,

Qatar this weekend, and the first Grand Prix on a circuit better known for hosting motorcycle races.

P1 was headed by Verstappen from Gasly, with the Merceds duo 3rd and 4th.

P2 saw faster times than P1, with Bottas fastest,  0.2 seconds ahead of Gasly.  Vertappen was next, over 1/3 sec off Bottas' pace with Hamilton just 7 hundredths behind.

So,  once again,  the traditional reminder;

Don't forget your predictions!

P3 is tomorrow at 11:00 and qualifying is at 14:00 with the race on Sunday, also at 14:00 - all times UTC (UK time).

Whilst we await a call from the RSPCA regarding the fate of Ade's octupi,  we'll continue with our league results from today!

By now the Channel 4 coverage should be at the post-race stage,  so firstly, here's who scored what today;

Now, how do today's points affect the overall table?

Just one place change today,  we'll come to that in a moment...  At the top, John S holds on to top spot with a slightly increased lead over Chris in second.  Tony remains in third.

Further down the table there's one place swap - Pete moves ahead of Ade,  but only by one and a half points!

We get a weekend off now,  and then the two final races of 2021 on the first two weekends in December, in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.

  • 2 weeks later...

For the penultimate time this season;

Don't forget your predictions!

Saudi Arabia this time,  and another circuit staging its first GP.  Hamilton has topped both practice sessions so far,  ahead of Verstappen in P1 and Bottas in P2 - though P2 was terminated 5 minutes early when Leclerc had a high speed crash at Turn 22, badly damaging his Ferrari.  Leclerc was unscathed, and quickly released after a brief visit to the medical centre.  I guess the Ferrari mechanics will be burning the midnight oil though...

The race is another evening race,  so P3 is tomorrow at 2 pm (UK time) and qualifying at 5 pm.  Sunday's race is at 5:30 pm.

Wow - what a crazy race that was!

So with the Channel 4 coverage having just dropped the chequered flag, let's have a look at the points scored in our league today;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 8 0 Revers Racing Pete B 164
2 11 1 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 149
3 10 0 Torque of the devil Stu 146
4 4 1 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 138
5 9 0 PSS Power Flyer 131
6 3 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 127
7 1 0 Pitts Specials john stones 127
8 2 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 123
9 7 0 teewrex John Tee 120
10 5 1 Igoronic racing iqon 114
11 13 0 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 110
12 6 0 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 90
13 12 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 89

There's a touch of the 'olden days' about some of our scores today, in particular with Pete returning to the sort of form that gave him our league title in past years.  Pete takes top place today with 164 points.  I'm 15 points further back in second with 149 points, just 3 points ahead of Stu in third with 146.

Well done to Pete and Stu, joining me on our virtual podium today!

Looking now at the overall league positions;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 1 0 Pitts Specials john stones 2979.0
2 2 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 2920.5
3 3 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 2694.5
4 4 1 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 2657.5
5 5 1 Igoronic racing iqon 2653.5
6 6 0 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 2513.5
7 7 0 teewrex John Tee 2465.5
8 8 0 Revers Racing Pete B 2462.0
9 9 0 PSS Power Flyer 2427.5
10 10 0 Torque of the devil Stu 2337.0
11 11 1 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 2210.5
12 12 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 2201.5
13 13 0 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 2140.0

No change in the top 3, with John S, Chris and Tony all posting very similar mid-table scores today.

Outside the top three, Charles moves up to 4th and is now just 4 points ahead of Iqon in 5th.  Further down the table I move up to 11th, displacing Kev to 12th,  but only by 9 points.

The finalé is next weekend in Abu Dhabi - Don't forget your predictions!

Exciting race, but a bit too much jeopardy for me. Love how restrained you all are, but I’ll throw out a few controversial comments….

seems to me Max is trying repeatedly to pay back copse corner at Silverstone by taking out Lewis. Only trouble is he’s not succeeded as Lewis is wise to it. The “oops i overcooked the corner entry” move of sliding wide whenever Hamilton is outside of the corner is getting very noticeable and I doubt a puny 5 sec wristslap from the stewards will stop Max repeating this in the future.

I do hope they stamp out the precedent of Max “conceding the position” then immediately diving into the next corner from zero gap to retake it. Lewis wasn’t allowed to keep his Spa 2008 win because a huge 25 second post race penalty was applied when he was judged to not have relinquished position to Kimi sufficiently, so the precedent should be clear.

Max and Red Bull clearly think they can surrender position “strategically” so that it’s easily regained directly afterwards. Not ok, and needs to be stopped or things become farcical.  Hope Michael Masi learns a few things from this race. There was plenty which could have been managed better.

Sorry to bring controversy corner to this fine thread ✌️

Totally agree with you re surrendering position - rules should be changed so they cannot retake the position until a full lap later.

And, adding seconds to a finishing time, after the race, having zero impact, is a completely pointless exercise!

Safety cars are making a bit of a farce imo. You build a big lead, using up your tyre for just that purpose, then it all disappears.

Don't get me started about the odious Horner......

Every time he opens the flap in his face you know it is going to be a moan about something as Red Bull are on the back foot now, they should stick to the job of trying to win it on the track not by trying to gain an advantage off it. I hope the championship is decided by clean racing on the track and not by some attempt at overtaking using more than the track limits or by causing a collision. Sometimes contact is unavoidable but some of the maneuvers the Max has made this end of the season smack of desperation.

Either could be the Champ or Chump.

Lewis already has a record that cannot be beaten for years so someone should point out to him that Stirling Moss gained enormous and lasting respect by not being World Champ but by playing fair and actually allowing his rivals to win if the circumstances required it.   ( Moss helped Mike Hawthorn get his penalty points back which enabled Hawthorne to beat him and become Champ.    Only enthusiasts remember Hawthorne but everyone remembers Sir Stirling....... )
