Forum members' new models: Let's see them.

Very kind. This particular engine I didn't make but typical of mine. The carriages are incorrect for the engine which were scratch built from 1840 drawings in brass, to go with a correct period engine. Just hooked up together for a quick steam up.

So given that background is anyone interested in my experience of construction of the DH2 over on the scale section?

Hi Robin, yes I'm always interested in how others tackle builds and the problems they sometimes pose. I've a Sopwith Pup which I hope to start soon, it's my first WW1 project,  so watch builds of that era closely.

Happy to do that. Perhaps on the scale sub forum rather than here. See post there.

I can understand the comments here.

I bought two of these. One for myself and a gift for my flying buddy( full size) who shares a similar passion for fine authentic live steam scale specialising in the pioneer era. We both dabble with rc and have similar tastes, early pioneer aircraft. Hence the gift. We have others.

I started mine back in November/Decent. As probably perceived I'm reasonably skilled and can certainly follow instructions.

However this is the second attempt at construction. A fundamental error early on and only apparent much later meant that it had to be completely dismantled and re started.

It's OK, but I know it's flaws, but that is for later.

Flying yesterday, David was relieved that I offered to build his with the intention that he test flew mine with some doubts. He brought his kit of parts and now i have them here.

So, I'll dismantle mine and rerigg and improve the control lines. Then do the second example.

The construction is 'novel' and if i approached this I'd probably CAD, use different materials and some 3D printing.

Any build pictures of the Tempest Michael, was it done from plans or 3 views? I would like to get into scratch building so any information would be appreciated..........

It was done from three views and photos, Martin. I tend to scale up from three views directly onto Depron. Much of what I do is what as an ex-wooden boatbuilder we would call "wrack of eye".  The chin was left fairly square so it should make a good skid for landing and it contains the esc to help with the cg. My planes are not perhaps true scale, but they do tend to fly well. Sorry there are no build pictures. I get so absorbed in building I don't really think about such things. The plans are in my head and I tend to make it up as I go along. Flying weight is a bit under 1.4 kilo. 35/36 1400kv motor. 3 cell 2200 lipo. It should be quick and agile with the oversize control surfaces. This was my first attempt at vac forming the cockpit canopy as I ususlly build ww1 biplanes.

Hi Ted. The wire wheels look really good on early planes. Did you buy them or are they part of the kit?

My latest Guillows RC conversion, the Zero, to complement my SBD3. No painting involved this time, just tissue paper (including the canopy and cowl) and printed on tissue paper for the roundels and tail marking. The flaps and gear outline are printed on clear sticker paper, but should have done it on tissue. Lesson for next time.

Cat .25 I built one years ago, and sold it, foolishly, but the lad wanted it really bad and saw it fly at a show and paid me £100 for the airframe only.  As I got almost all of them, until I built a replacement, saw this. will do until I get the plane and rebuild one. At least the set is complete...

The red one was the one I sold. Wonder where it is now...?

I was given the wheels by a friend leaving the hobby.  I suspect they were Topflite but cant be sure.  I built form plans but I dont think the kit (if you can get one) includes wheels.

Paul, I have just dug out my Cat25 plan from Radio Modeller, May 94. There is a lot to be said for these simple, quick-build, sport models. It fits in the car in one piece (only 44in span) and looks pretty tough. Even a 'cooking 25' would have made it a good 'bicycle clip' type model, I guess. I wonder if I could build one in a couple of days?!

Here's my version oa Clancy "Speedy Bee". While all the original dimensions were not touched, I did some cosmetic modifications.

Hi Karl - I'm a rank beginner having only put together a single trainer from an ARTF set - I've longed to build the regular Bee and have managed to find the pattern off the web. Did you buy a pre-cut kit from Clancy's in the USA? Or did you follow a plan?
