Recommended Posts

Had one of these back in the mid 70's with a HP 61 F and Horizon 6E radio

then last year at the Blackbush air show I saw this for sale.........

should make a quick restoration job ,so off we go then...........

ummmm......!

imga0567.jpg

after some light hacksaw and chisel work surprise

imga0568.jpg

underneath the film the fuz had been painted and this over time has made the ABS plastic brittle , so it looks like I will re-build this as the original Tiger bi-plane kitted buy Wik in the 60's ho-hum......

Hummmm , this has been on the backburner so long I think the gas has gone outblush! , this got put to one side due to doubts about the material used for the wing struts (to thin ) then other projects pushed it to the ‘round tuett’ shelf .However , after completing my DB barnstormers I had sufficient alloy strip left to remake the struts, so………………….

new struts glued & screwed , removed hardwood servo bearers , wing retainers and large amount of old epoxy

Quite so Andrew, I always think it best to put it to one side if you encounter a problem with no immediate solution and come back to it later with ‘fresh eyes ‘ as it were ,o.k. maybe not as long as this perhaps laugh.

100_4782.jpg

1/16 sheet added to clean up the radio bay

100_4787.jpg

lower wing fixing ,1/4 ply drilled & tapped 6M lower sheet removed ( it was a bit batted)

100_4788.jpg

U/C plate plugged new block added

100_4790.jpg

I think you know what this is ! winklaugh

Well now that the Bi-Fli is finished it's onto the next unfinished project thread, which, funny enough,is another biplane !laugh

I tried the glass cloth and water based varnish, but not over impressed with it,think I will go back too using epoxy

Still filling, still rubbing although I've moved on to squirting paint /filler,the fus was in bad shape and so far my efforts have't improved it much ! LOL laugh

anyway,I need too choose an engine engine again,my original ST had a HP 61 F but I was intending to fit a ST75 but not being a super tigre fan (some are wink) I sold it on some time ago.So it will be one of these three

ell, think it's time to resurrect one of my old threads ! The reason for the build stalling was that old bugbear of mine the dreaded fuel proofing ?now it just so happens that I recently (as in last year!) needed to respray a motorcycle l built,so l got a spray gun and paint and set to it.Which turned out o.k and now ment l had

  1.the equipment for spraying

2.the 2k clear fuel proofer

I also had to strip the godawful Solafilm polyester off the tailplane and replaced it with Hobbyking film

rebuilt webra 61F on custom backplate mounting ,and now to deal with the other thing that l had been avoiding, the cowling! Again this was as a result of making a couple of custom side panels for the bike that ment l had the materials and (a bit) of experience to make it

foam blank

all g/f up and waiting to cure ?

cowling  blocks glued and screwed

Now with added holes! I'm well pleased with the cowling with no voids and a uniform thickness

I did have to move the engine up a 1/4" and fill the unwanted holes ?

Thanks for the compliment Matt,I actually have a set of plans for charly, the wing construction is identical to the jonny I've just finished and similar to the Commander that will be my winter build, you can find most of the plans for the Wik range on outerzone and I think a kit review for the charly by Peter Miller no less?
