karl grey
Nice work Martin, putting me to shame as I still need to get a copy of the plan but will wait as I have 2 other projects on the go first. One of these projects is making me think about how an electric foam version of the jazz would work out.
Ian Southerton 1
I've been thinking of mounting my servos on top of the wing so i can fly without undercarriage-helpful as the grass where i fly is often long. Are there any advantanges/disadvantages?
Martin U
As you can see from the photo I went for top mounted servos as I wanted to protect them from hard landings. I imagine there will be more turbulence impacting the tail/fin so I may make up some aero device to smooth it a bit. Interested to hear other thoughts
Kevin Fairgrieve
Looks like my RX battery choice may have to change. I just offered up the LiFe and is is not going to fit under the tank. I am hopeful that I can squeeze it above the tank. You can also see here the tank encroaching into the wing leading edge issue. Can you charge LIFe batteries in situ? I believe you can but it would mean making an extension lead for the balance lead and a way to get to it to charge it. Suggestions please. Martin U
I may have some issue with the CofG but I'm thinking of mounting the batt on a small tray behind the tank.
Martin U
Oh and latest pic with engine test mounted.
Martin U
Bat position, My plan 'B' is to put it in the top cover but I'll need to think about the strength of that or the bat could fly out on a hard landing. As you can see still WIP thinking.
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
You can charge your LiFE batteries in the model Kev no problem.....at the risk of stating the obvious you DO need a charger with a LiFE program.....a LiPo program won't do... I found a 90cc tank at HK that I think will do the job....90cc is just over 3oz I think.....one is on the way to me so I'll report back... See here... Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
PS.....Li battery balance leads available here....
Kevin Fairgrieve
My IMAX B6 (copy) can charge LiFe so not a problem there. Most 4 button chargers can charge LiFe. But remember to put it back to LIPO when done!!!! Kev Edited By Kevin Fairgrieve on 05/11/2013 21:04:
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
I'm sure you're right Kev & I didn't think for a moment you would try & charge a LiFE battery using a non-LiFE program.....but better safe than sorry eh!! Kevin Fairgrieve
This bit of carbon bling arrived this morning. Same as on my original Jazz. Kev
Ian Southerton 1
I bought one of them too and a tail skid. Will be interesting to see how it holds up as i bent the piano wire gear on my old jazz!
Kevin Fairgrieve
This is the same as on my other Mini Jazz. Has survived well including a less than smooth arrival. I did make up a wire set originally. Never used them. Kev
crispin church
my battery just behind tank i use same life battery for a lead use a normal servo lead and take end sleeve off on the pins fits a treat and on a b6 charger balance plug and got 3 planes with the battery left in all time
Martin U
Progress update.. Servo's fitted, fus covered [last night] With the small fus and closed loop rudder I found that the best way [for me] to fit the elevator servo was to invert it. Couple of pics to show top & bottom view. All seems to work OK The eagle eyed will see that I fitted the wing retainers the wrong way round Doh! Too much trauma to change and they are well fixed. As the model is so light I'm going to leave it.....
Ian Southerton 1
Some of the builds are taking shape really quick. My work so far-also building a Piwakawaka, so going slow and it's cold nin the garage!
Kevin Fairgrieve
All coming along nicely and looking good. My build is on hold for the next week as me and SWMBO are off to the Jurasic Coast for a weeks well deserved R and R before the mad silly season. Never ever choose to work in retail if you can help it. Kev Edited By Kevin Fairgrieve on 10/11/2013 20:11:
IanN
Posted by Martin U on 04/11/2013 16:21:55: here you go Kev 1 tail pic Aswell as the incidence question, (which Mr A has already confirmed was corrected in a subsequent mag and should be 0 / 0) the tailplane seems to be further forward on this MHS stocked plan, as opposed to the free plan - presumably to stop the elevators fouling the rudder? Xavier Anglès
Hi, first of all, let me introduce myself, my name is Xavi and I'm writing from a small city near Barcelona in Catalonia. The "Mini Jazz" will be my first plane built from a plan... but as a newbie, I have a question regarding the plans... what are the "small triangles" in the plans? If you watch the photo in the previous post you will see the "small triangles" that I'm referring... Many thanks and sorry for my bad english Xavi
Ian Southerton 1
Hi, your English is better than a lot of people who live here! Think the triangles you refer to are small 'fillets' used to strengthen the tail, you'll find the same on the elevator. It's just a balsa offcut the same thickness as the tail with the grain of the wood as shown on the plan. Ian.
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
Or do you mean the small white triangles running top & bottom & around the tailplane?? If so these are used to denote the actual outline of a part...in this case the fuselage sides.... They are just there for the avoidance of doubt & show which line to cut to.... Ian Southerton 1
2 different minds, 2 different answers!!! Never thought of the outline triangles! Ian.
Xavier Anglès
yes, I mean the small white triangles... many thanks for your answers! Xavi
