Ace
Flying Legends on at Leeds East but while in the garage heard the distinct rumble of Merlin's and just caught the Lancaster (poor quality phone image)
leccyflyer
I'd expected to see the air full of Spitfires, Mustangs and Corsair whilst at the Pontefract Retro Event, but not a sausage and aooarently they didn't fly at all yesterday - I did see the Lancaster on the way home* *I was on the way home, not the Lancaster. GrumpyGnome
@leccyflyer only four planes didn't fly at Church Fenton Flying Legends yesterday, a Gladiator, Hellcat, 2 P51s. Loads of Spitfires, a few Corsairs, couple of P51's definitely did their thing. They seemed to on Saturday as well.
leccyflyer
That's very good to hear - I'd heard a rumour that flying was cancelled on the Saturday. Like I said, I'd hoped to see loads of waarbirds on their way there. but apart from a fleeting glimpse of the Lancaster at about 4pm on the way home, not a sausage. A couple of my clubmates made the trip down from Scotland and I was a bit worried that they might have had a washout on the Saturday especially. Very pleased that you all got a good weekend out of the event.😎
leccyflyer
Not quite over my house but took a wee trip up the road to the former RAF Peterhead yesterday evening, as the Buchan Aero Club had organised a flypast by the BBMF to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the arrival of the active combat aeroplanes at the airfield, since they were in the area for a display as part of Peterhead Scottish Week, along with the Red Arrows. I've had an interest in the Mustangs (65 & 19 Squadrons) which operated from RAF Peterhead in support of the Banff and Dallachy Strike Wings and there was the promise of a fish supper, so how could I refuse? In the event the BBMF was represented by the Lancaster, but in lieu of a Spitfire or Hurricane, she was escorted by a Eurofighter Typhoon from RAF Lossiemouth. They displayed over Peterhead, which we could see in the distance as did the Red Arrows. The highlight though was that as this wasn't a dsiplay at the airfield as such, there was no defined crowd line, so the Lancaster passed overhead, quite low and you really got a great view - she did multiple circuits and, whilst the Lancaster was displaying over Peterhead the Typhoon loitered with intent around where we were on the airfield.
leccyflyer
Lots of air activity this evening on ADS-B, can hear the Typhoons going about their business - chasing drones over the Highlands - plus a whole slew of L-159 Albatros and Dassault Falcons acting as Agressors off the East Coast - tankers doing racecourse circuits and the air full of military aircraft. There's a big exercise on this week.
GrumpyGnome
So, this morning, there was a Cessna (not exciting), an autogyro (pic below), and some sort of Rutan that I coildn't photogtaph - a noisy beast! That pic is a little like 'spot the ball!
David P Williams
This pair seem to have been circulating round the local South Shropshire/East Powys valleys this morning. I didn’t get to the camera fast enough for their first pass which was MUCH lower, barely above rooftop height, but managed to catch them on their second pass.
David P Williams
I was surprised that these were RN Merlins. We get a lot of RAF and USAF stuff up the valley, but Navy stuff is unusual. Just found out that it was for the funeral a few villages away of a local 20 year old who was in the RN stationed at Yeovilton and was killed in a car crash down there in November
