Phil Green
We had our 4th annual Single-Channel & Retro R/C Fly-in on the 28th of June, and this year we'd chosen a 'David Boddington theme'. Wow was it windy, but the stalwart s/c flyers battled on regardless... we had the usual mix of real enthusiasts flying s/c & reeds, some single-surface propo, some full-house flyers, but the highlight of the day for me was watching two models in particular - Glyn Turnbull's DB Tyro fitted with rudder-only pulse proportional using an Ace conversion and a Adams magnetic actuator, and Shaun Garrity's DB Swift flying on 2.4ghz Galloping-Ghost using a Rand actuator for rudder & elevator. Both flew really well with plenty of control authority in the strong wind. In flight, the Swift was visibly oscillating in pitch, much to the amusement of those who'd never seen Galloping-Ghost in action! You can see it happening at around 8:14 into the video Despite the challenging conditions we had a great day, at least it stayed dry! I posted a hastily edited video, its not brilliant but hopefully gives an idea of how much fun we had. It starts out with a photo of Gary Dickens who brought his DB Barnstormer Mini to the UK all the way from Australia, and then Paul Jeffries with his Jackdaw on reeds, Ron Buckwell's S/C Sharkface, and so on... Thats Andrew Boddington at 43 seconds in with the yellow jacket, son of Boddo himself, chatting with Alex Whittaker. Gary didnt fancy carrying the Barnstormer Mini all the way back to Oz so he very kindly gave it to me! Its lovely, I'll make sure she gets plenty of exercise Gary... There are also quite a few still photos posted here Cheers Phil Edited By Phil Green on 12/07/2015 12:54:
