Craig Thomas
I ordered my film from hobby king on Monday evening. It arrived today. I ordered bright silver and pirate blue. Not sure if they will go together but time will tell. The silver I ordered is almost like a chrome silver. Really bright. It seems thinner than the other hobby king film I've had before. When I finally get to the covering stage I'll let you know how it performs.
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Oh - silver and blue - very 1930's! Should look smart. BEB
Craig Thomas
After a bit of looking around on google I've decided I wanna go for a colour scheme similar to this. I'm not going a any particular replica, it's just a scheme I find attractive. It could all change yet?
Martyn K
That looks nice M
Chris Barlow
Needs a prop though! I haven't even thought of covering and colour yet! Maybe something vintage, and british?

Craig Thomas
Well, tomorrow I'm hoping to join the two wing halls together. I've raised the lower sheeting of the second wing, just waiting for glue to dry. So tomorrow I will join the two. I read is peters build log to leave rib r1 out until I join the 2 half's. Can I just confirm that I raise the last rib on each with by 1 nice to get the correct angle?
Chris Barlow
How I read it Peter left the second wing half pinned to the bench and joined the first half, raising the wing tip under the last whole rib by 2" added the two R1 ribs and the dihedral brace. Chris Barlow
Also when joining the two wing halves make sure the leading edge is straight across the whole wing and doesn't sweep forwards or backwards. With the wing dihedral you'll probably just have to do this by eye or set a straight edge on the bench and use a square to check the elevated wing tip. Chris Barlow
Looking nice & tidy for a first build Craig. "Big" moment coming up joining the two wing halves. Assemble it and do a trial run first without glue to make sure you know how you're doing it and have everything lined up and working first. kc
Don't use filler on 'dings' but just one drop of water onto it will probably push it right back out like magic!
Peter Miller
The idea of fitting the R-1 when you join the wings is this. If you have already fitted it the chances are that you will not get a perfectmatch between the two R-1s. Gaps are bad news. TJhis way you get a perfect match. The 2" support is out at the tip rib, That is the last full size rib on the wing., The comment"Last Whole Rib" could be miss interpreted. Craig Thomas
Thanks for guidence and advice guys. I've fitied R1 to the half that is off the bench but have not fitted it to the other half. So hopefully I will be able to get a perfect fit when I bring the 2 half's together. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow. 👌Edited By Craig Thomas on 16/01/2016 18:36:

Craig Thomas
I've seen a few of us talk about bihedral gauges to get the spars and ribs sanded to the right angle? I'm guessing it's just's scrap wood cut to the angle of the dihedral brace ?
AVC
Hi CraigThis is exactly what it is. Use a piece of scrap and the plan to make it. I use to do it with all my modelsEven if you will follow Peter Miller's instructions and not fitting R1 until after joining the panels, the gauge helps you to adjust the upper spar more accurately

Peter Miller
It is propped up 2" under the outer wing rib. AS the tip is not intended to be fitted at this stage it will not be the rib on the tip but then edn of the wing without a tip on.
Craig Thomas
Thanks for the conformation guys. As far as I know Percy it's the last whole rib, Ie the rib next to the ailaron.

Craig Thomas
Well, it's done. Just waiting for the glue to dry. I managed to get the leading edge lined up fine, but for some reason the 2 trailing edges where around 3 mm out. I think I've managed to get it close enough. Nothing a bit of tactical sanding won't fix.
Craig Thomas
Please excuse the state of the work bench. I might treat it to a tidy up this week?
