john stones 1 - Moderator
Looks very good Andy and yes I agree, when you first build something you worry too much about it, I built some right rubbish when I first started (quiet at the back) and they all flew o.k. AVC
That big Ballerina looks very nice Andy. I'm tempted of building a 200% versi?n and put a 40cc petrol on the nose...😉
Peter Miller
Looks very nice indeed. We have all seen models that should never have flown flying well. The ones that bother me are those that look great and should fly but which don't'
AndyD
that would be something 200% 108 inch span go for it love to see that fly. thx people was just trying to put across that worry can be off putting to new buiders,in my case in the early days igorance was bliss. in the early 80s two flyers both built flair hooligans/like a wot 4 ,neither of them even got off the ground as they dropped a wing straight away,i was given one but never flew it as i didnt want to risk my gear,so much dearer back then or so it appeared. Chris Barlow
That's a big yellow wing there Andy! I'm resisting the urge to start covering as I haven't completely decided on a colour scheme yet. I guess you succumbed to the ironing! I hope the caravan dweller experienced some justice too. People can be so arrogant!
AndyD
my colour was decided for me,i already had it,cant remember what happened to the caravan man i think he was moved on,must check if the clubs still goin,25-30 years ago. thinking of putting shoes on the beast, extra weight shall have to see what the final poundage comes out at.meanwhile the wings all but done, paint and linkages. john stones 1 - Moderator
Pair of boots will not go amiss Andy, as long as they're not steel toe caps John
Chris Barlow
I was thinking boots too! Might be the way to go?
Bob Cotsford
Posted by Chris Barlow on 26/01/2016 18:42:42: I was thinking boots too! Might be the way to go? Me too - I thought it would be different! I've got several sets from ex-models, long and slim or short and fat. How do the boots survive when the airframe gets trashed, yet snag them on long grass and they fall apart!
AndyD
still undesided on the boots, ive got 3 types to choose from from planes no longer with us,yea long grass seems to kill them more than a nose dive into the ground. but ive now got three wheels on my wagon
john stones 1 - Moderator
A fixed wheel for me, plenty of rudder there for taxiing. John
AndyD
i did think about a skid or a fixed wheel but before i knew it i was doing the steering type, the inner me took over like driving when you dont remember the last few miles, there is a word for it but cant remember...(sleep)..thats it. a little each evening produces good results, without the forum i would sit and ponder what to do next then it would be to late and time for bed. Martyn K
That's looking really nice Andy. I wont be bothering with spats. Far too fragile for me. Maiden this weekend? Martyn

john stones 1 - Moderator
Stringers look a bit good on yours Andy, I'm dreading doing those, not got steady hands. John
AndyD
they say the camera never lies im not so sure, the spacings not perfect and i wasnt to worried as i didnt realize my covering was see through at the time,i must scollop the infills before i forget. Piers Bowlan
It's looking fab Andy, very inspirational, perhaps I should start mine but not 120% perhaps. I have looked back in the thread but I can't find which covering you are using, it looks like it has a matt or eggshell finish, rather nice sheen and translucent too. Devcon1
That is some very neat covering going on there. Great build very well engineered. John
AndyD
not sure if its solar but it is a matt ish texed covering bought on a roll with no markings for an a now abandomed model, trying to get as much done so to work out where my batts are goin. AndyD
tail now covered and the stringers now sanded to shape.as its on its own 3 feet i took it for a walk out side to get it used to the big open spaces.
AndyD
motor bay damp proofed (i use emulsion or acylic artist paints,i used to use the same with my glow models with no problems) motor back in to check prop clearance,no problems there even with the 18 inch prop.its turning out very nose heavy, last photo shows balance position so far. AndyD
need a rethink as you see from the last photo its not the best place for the battery.even if i put the servos in the tail its still tail heavy, should of made it a bit bigger.weight dont seem to be a problem as its at 6Ib 4oz less hatch and covering. john stones 1 - Moderator
I would be happy with my lipo over the c.g Andy, where's the servos for elevator/rudder ? could you mod the hatch, drop the battery down ? John
