jeff2wings
So,after a bit of a pause ,, project Meteor RV makes some progress ? in the style of the Nordec
jeff2wings
So after searching the web and other forums, I got zero info on this engine so I think it's time to have a look at the insides of this mystery engine yes,it's a front rotary disc inlet, most people will have seen a rear rotary disc valve (that I will be using on the meteor above) but this is most unusual, although if you the name E.T.Westbury probably less so.Will screw it back together and see how it goes . Manish Chandrayan
That sure is one massive crank web on the Howard. Maybe was a necessity due to front intake. And I for sure have never seen a front rotary intake. Thanks for those pictures
onetenor
Looks home made from castings to me.

jeff2wings
Thanks for that Geoff,I have come across Adrians site before but others may enjoy looking at his excellent engine library Yes onetenor, home built for certain, the patterns for casings are well done although the casting not so good surface finish, also the crankshaft is made in three pieces. So,no sooner than I mention Mr Westbury and up pops on e-bay for sale a Westbury 5 cc KESTREL with front rotary valve !!
jeff2wings
So after digging through my box of meteor bits ....... I found this.... if any one has an old engine they would like restored,PM me and I will see if I can help out
jeff2wings
So this week in the workshop I have finally made a start on my over engineered and unnecessarily complicated test stand to run up some of these engines I have ! this is half of it,more complication to come. Manish Chandrayan
That's some nice clean work
jeff2wings
Thanks Manish, Bit more faffing about with the Meteor RV inlet rotor part finished intake housing just the carb retaning screw to add and a final skim over, then onto the crankshaft
jeff2wings
Well I'm in getting closer to possibly finishing this project it might even run ! so after some nerve-wracking milling and turning I have this ,the crank pin will be a press fit in silver steel of .250 inch o/d,the meteor one is 7 mm so that means I will need................. a new conrod ! if nothing else,it will make a nice paper weight Edited By jeff2wings on 29/09/2018 18:42:
jeff2wings
So today I made an 'improved' test stand ,I have one of those clamp type mounts but always thought it could be done better as some engines did't fit so well.

Wrongly packaged . my 2nd order for the rubbers ----which are black ---arrived as the blue stones despite saying rubber on packs.. Gone back with returns label. Other brands may be available. jeff2wings
Crankshaft finely finished ,just need to shim the r/disc and then ream the conrod ,assemble, and then run !

paul coleman 1
jeff i take it you are an engineer, that test stand looks the dogs pal, excellent, i see your into your bikes too,so i suppose that comes in handy when it comes to engines, well done, good job. GrahamWh
NIce one Jeff. There's a guy at our club that like MDS - though I think he sometimes flies his to wind up a guy that doesn't!
Bruce Collinson
Fascinating Jeff. 2 questions. What’s the other end designed for, is it some sort of radial mount? Will there be a tacho fitted behind the “firewall”? BTC

Well sort of,I'm a welder/fabricator by trade but after 40 years in the industry you pickup other skills along the way like milling /turning ,but I'm no expert, just an enthusiastic amateur ! Yes that's a radial mount for larger engines and I will be looking into a fixed tacho. Just finished off a OPS 40 SLA that a very generous member on this forum gave me along with a Meteor 40 for restoration. As it came out the box and now
