Precedent T180

Recommended Posts

An friend's attic revealed a partly-built plywood Precedent T180 in a rather dusty box. We have all the parts, part lists, prop and even the pilot, but can go no further without the plans. Would love to give her a go!

Can anyone help with these? Or suggest where we might source them.

Happy to pay all copying and postage costs. Thanks.

You might like to try Slec themselves. I believe they still produce the T-240, so it can't hurt to ask whether they still have the literature you require for your T-180. Details as follows:

Hello Alison, I have one of these that I fly occasionally. The fuselage is built from instructions, there were no plans for it. There are two types of wings available, foam or conventional built up construction. There are plans for the built up type but I don't know about the foam ones. It will probably turn out much heavier than you expect but will not need too much power. One of the deals years ago was the kit and a .40 size motor but I think a bit more power would not go amiss. Mine is electric powered and is used as a test bed for various set ups. I am not sure if I still have the plans for the wings but I can look in a few days time if that would be a help to you.

All the best... Chris N.

Alison, if you get stuck, let me know. I have just purchased an un-used T180 kit which includes the plan for a built-up wing. However, the plan appears to be a bastard size (as they say in engineering circles - no swearing intended!)

It is slightly narrower but much longer than A0 size so at least 2 x A0 copies will need to be made. I have phoned Staples and they charge £5 per A0 copy. A second problem is that I cannot find (on t'internet) where to purchase a single postal tube - they all seem to come in packs of 10 or more - so it might be necessary to fold the plan/s into an envelope.

Additionally, I won't be able to get to Staples for a few days so, if you are in a hurry...

Ian

PS I am hoping to electrify it. Percy, what do you think - would an Eflite Power 46 motor on 4S do the job? Should be about 600-ish watts (according to David Ashby when fitting out a H9 Toledo Special)

Staples in Derby (and probably elsewhere) are excellent for copying plans. The machine they use is fed from a paper roll so, provided the width is OK the length can be as long as necessary. eg I had the Ballerina plans copied for very little money and got them on 2 separate sheets on much more robust paper than the magazine pull-out. I also had my Skyways Models Mew Gull drawings copied so that I could cut them up into more manageable sizes without spoiling the originals. They are very non-standard dimensions.

I'm pretty sure the T180 and and T240 have identical construction except for the size. So even the T240 drawing would be useful for building the T180. Precedent made a habit of making models with foam wings and no drawings beyond an instruction sheet with sketches - I built a couple of their Funflys and they were the same.

Ian, I have flown my t180 on several electric set up's ranging from 6s at 1200watts which is way too much down to 3s and 500watts which is not really enough. If you can keep the weight below 7lbs an e flite power 46 propped for 600 watts (its maximum for 4s) will be just enough but with no headroom. Check the weight as you build and be prepared to either go to 5s or fit a motor that can handle more current if the weight creeps up.

Alison, do you have experience with building/flying an R/c model? There are other models that make better trainers than a T180.

All the best... Chris N.

Not so impressive at my local branch!

On some well intentioned advice, I opted to use the local Staples in preference to a recommendation for another copy shop, which fitted in more with my expeditionary plans for the day. Having been given an indication of reasonable pricing I didn't bother to check their prices before handing over my plans...assuming that they would at least be competitive with the other shop (who quoted £9.50 for 2 copies of 3 sheets or £5.50 for one of each)

At least I got it done by a "Copy Specialist" (a slack jawed, vacant looking 16 year old sporting an official badge proclaiming her skills) who could nearly work the machine (only going for advice once) and only had to strip it down once to free the leading edge of my original which had looped round while she was struggling to re-fold the first sheet. Once the 4 sheets that had been truncated by it being set to A0 length instead of free length were redone (during which I had to point out that she was standing on the free end of my fuselage plan) I just had the shock of the £21 bill to deal with!

Thanks everyone!

Ian R ......would be pleased to receive the plans, and the cost of course!

And the flying pastor ......never attempted anything like this, but an attic find cannot be ignored! Probably by the end of the winter, you will see the T180 in the "unfinished and for sale" column! We await!!!

We have the Parts Listing four page booklet, with wee diagrams, and numbers. Also the Building Instructions booklet, but as the plane is partly built and at the rudder and fin stage, will need the plans for eg Pic 28/29 etc. and hopefully go from there!

  • 7 months later...

I'm hoping that someone in this forum can help me too with plans, diagrams, instructions, anything to help me get a tired T180 back in the air. The previous owner/owners have done what looks like some rather drastic modifications to the fuselage, to accommodate a large Super Tigre .61, and the wing for flaps. I intend to use an OS 52 4 stroke I have. Any help would be very much appreciated and of course any costs for copies or posting I will gladly refund.

Thank you

Ewan

To answer your question David. Yes I intend to have the T180 flying again. Present covering is very tatty so will need to strip all the old covering and check for any structural damage, recover and then fit my OS 4 stroke. Would like to also tidy up the flaps but that may require quite a bit of surgery. It appears they where fitted as an after thought. I'll try and pm some photos later.
