Craig Kane
Hi folks, I'm starting to build the Chris Golds 86" Nimrod and have a question about the undercarriage. I want to use these as they are the closest to scale: **LINK** but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives? I thought about using air retracts instead of electric but have no idea where to start looking. Any help would be appreciated. Craig
Martian
I have just looked at some images of three Nimrod and those Hobbyking retracts look pretty good to me
Denis Watkins
Those you chose look perfect Craig, and there is not much, apart from the wheels, that show from the aircraft
Craig Kane
Thanks folks. They are the best looking ones and the addition of brakes is very useful. The wheels are slightly too large (according to the plans) but I'm ex Nimrod groundcrew and I know that the mains are a good bit larger than the elsewhere. ChrisB
If you're flying it off grass then you might struggle. My dads Comet used bungee assist off grass and eventually the inevitable happened and it went in with a tail wrapped in cord. No issue off tarmac though. We used to fly from a grass strip so there was no chance of me even attempting to build it. I've decided to take full advantage of the fact that we have a proper runway and spend the money on some "proper" models.
MAD Dave
Craig, presumably your Nimrod has flown by now, I would be grateful if you could give a report on how it all went. I have wanted to build and fly a model of it for many years and only recently discovered the plans,;of which I am now a proud owne! Like yourself, I had a professional association with the airframe. Any tips etc would be most appreciated.
Craig Kane
Dave, unfortunately the build of the Nimrod hasn't even started yet. Life has got in the way. The parts are all there, patiently waiting for me to put them together but I'm afraid it'll have to wait.
