Beth Ashby Moderator
Thanks to the suggestion by Peter Gain, we have a new poll. We want to know how your flying/building has graduated? Did you start with ARTF and then graduate to building from kits or building from plans, both or neither. Discuss below!
Jeff Mills
I started building from kits and plans and now gone mostly ARTF there is no option for this.
Stuphedd
I mainly design and build my own !! again we need another option ! cheers
Jon H
There were no ARTF (at least none i could afford) when i started so i had to build. Now i usually fly ARTF sport models and build all my scale stuff.
Rick Tee
Similar to Jeff, there were no artf's when I started so built from kits, graduated to plans. Now I do have some artf's but still build from plans.
ken anderson.
1960's for me.......the nearest thing to artf was a 1/6p(7p) bundle of sticks(balsa)from the local DIY shop in the town centre...and an old razor blade+tube of balsa cement ... PS...... I haven't voted as you need a category....started with plans then went on to kits and ARTF..... ken Anderson...ne...1..... happy days dept. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
What about those that started with Kits/Plans and moved to ARTF, at least as part of the mix? Mmmm? BEB
Philflyer
I dont fit any of the voting options. Started with kits then a couple of veneered foam wing kits (almost ARTF) then mostly plans with a couple of modern ARTFs along the way. I bet there are a lot of others like me too. Can we have an option that just says "Started with kits then on to everything else"?
Gary Manuel
Started with kits and moved on to ARTF's but still do a bit of building when the fancy take me - missing from the voting options.
Geoff S
Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 12/10/2017 15:32:15: What about those that started with Kits/Plans and moved to ARTF, at least as part of the mix? Mmmm? BEB Me too. I started in the early 90s when I had to give up sailing because of injury. I built a Precedent Electrafly after I tried full-size gliding on a week's course at Camp Hill in Derbyshire. Then built a power trainer and started to learn to fly RC - I'm still learning to fly, buying the odd foamie and building from kits and plans. Don Fry
Sorry, can't vote, like all the other elderly moaners, no catagory.
Andrew767
Another one that can't vote because there is no option for me. Beth, can't we have an option for started with kits or plans as that would cover many who can't vote now? Andrew
Mowerman
I'm with those who started with kits and plans. A couple of ARTF I had were not a great success !
Tomtom39
Same here Beth . Mine would be started with plans, built kits before moving to ARTF
Frank Skilbeck
Yep, you need another option " I'm so old that I had to build from kits" BTW I now do all 3, ARTF, Kits and Plans.
John Muir
I'm another who started in the pre-ARTF era and now do a bit of everything, so can't answer.
Bob Cotsford
Rubber powered kit's, then control-line kits and plans, now RC kits, plans and ARTF. I doubt I could turn round fast enough for c/l these days!
Geoff Jackson
Yep, need another category! Like many I was building longbefore ARTF. Do all now, kits, plans and ARTF.
Brian Cooper
I started with kits in the era before ARTFs were invented. . Then moved on to building from plans . . Then to designing my own aeroplanes . . Then dabbled with ARTFs. . . and now drift from one to the other. We need more options on the list. B.C. David Holland 2
ARTF's hadn't been invented way back then. Started with kits, then plans. Nowadays a bit of everything, kits, own designs, artfs, foamies, you name it. On a bit of a building splurg at the moment, and loving it. Anyway, I'm with the other old folks in that there is no category that I can vote in. David
