Nothing is ever truly out of date but retro modellers enjoy flying RC models from the 60's to early 80's . Prior to that is generally considered Vintage.

There is a large world wide movement for Retro Modelling especially converting early radio gear to 2.4g and flying it instead of having it stuck on a shelf.

Single Channel, Galloping Ghost, Pulse Proportional and Reed transmitters with Arduino based encoders (and re-coders for the Galloping Ghost and Pulse)  with 2.4g RF modules are being reproduced by modellers. It is a new skill set learning to fly using these control methods and very rewarding. There are many hundreds of these sets in use world wide now. The same applies to classic proportional radios being converted with new encoders and RF modules. I have a Futaba M6 with 20 memories an early OS  5 channel propo transmitter.

Paul Bardoe and his retro aerobatic events are well established and supported with a healthy following

JR have produced a superb retro radio so they obviously saw a commercial opportunity here.  We are no longer a minority group.
