Cuban8 Posted November 5, 2018 Share Posted November 5, 2018 All good stuff, but I wonder how the enthusiasm will be maintained given the limitations of what one can do with a small drone racing round a closed circuit? How much more development and spectator appeal can be expected in what appears to me to be a narrow and very specialised activity - don't misunderstand me, I'm not knocking it. It puts me in mind of motorcycle speedway which was a huge draw for fans with stadiums packed to capacity in years gone by. Still going, but a shadow of its former glory. Geoff S Posted November 6, 2018 Share Posted November 6, 2018 I think drone racing comes into the category of a participant rather than a spectator sport and none the worse for that. The only sports I've been involved in to any great extent fall into the same category ie motor cycle trials and dinghy racing - only other participants take much of an interest. Lots of things killed speedway as a mass spectator sport. One of them is noise. At Long Eaton, the stadium was in a populated area (we lived perhaps 3 miles away and could time the laps as the noise rose and fell if the wind was favourable) so I guess the locals might have had something to do with its demise. Plus there's lots more things to do on a weekday evening. I was a regular at Brandon Gate to watch Coventry Bees in the 1960s. Geoff Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
