Piers Bowlan
That looks great Richard, love the sound too with the two blade setup. Is it harder to fly than the three blade model? Brave to fly in that wind too.
Outrunner
That looks very impressive Rich, nice looking model and you fly it very nicely. Hopefully the plan will be published soon. I'm hoping to fly my Whippish this week it's just about ready to whirl. Phil.
Cliff 1959
That's just great, I think I have the bug, no pun intended lol
Richard Harris
Piers, Like you I do like the sound of the 2 blades, are they harder to fly? Yes and No. A little trickier to set up but once right are on par with 3 blades. Phil, Look forward to seeing a flight report Thanks for the comments gents Rich Edited By Richard Harris on 23/03/2020 12:23:
Chris Dowell
Well it looks as if flying is off the cards at the moment. Total lock down in my part of the world. Flying clubs are locked with a $75.000 fine for any one found on the field. So I hope everyone has building materials on hand and plenty of time to spare.Cos I did so hope to get in some more flights with this model Happy Landings. Richard Harris
Chris, Same here, its a £30 fine if caught undertaking non essential activities under our lock down. Its my last day at work tomorrow and I then have to self isolate on my own for 14 days. Luckily I have many unfinished projects that I must try and complete in readiness for those long summer evenings, maybe not this year. What will you build? Chris Dowell
27 deg C ...light 3 mph breeze.... beautiful blue sky ...what more would we ask for... .oh yes ,that's right ..no fly. Rich ..you know me.... I do always have the next project going in my head ,as I'm still working on the last one. I've been working on a rigid 4 blade head with flexing blades.but I can't test it. As some of you will know ..my other hobby is brewing and distilling.and unfortunately hand sanitizer is unavailable so I have been distilling some 85% spirit and making sanitizer and surface spray for the family. Gee it smells great. Keep safe all Chris...
Chris Dowell
Well today was my first flight in about eight weeks and I must admit that I was a little rusty...as I had expected but did manage to get a video of the flight showing my modified stab. If I ask Rich very politely ..he may even post the video for cos I have a prob on this site. Happy Landings Chris...
Richard Harris
Chris, Great to see you back at the field, is it one at a time in these strange times? I am liking the tailplane, it looks better. I may borrow the idea if you dont mind? Keep safe Rich
Chris Dowell
Rich Thanks for posting .No, not one at a time ...there are eight flyers permitted to attend the field for any morning OR afternoon session. but it was nice to have it all to myself...glad you like the stab....was bit rusty with the ROG Chris... Malcolm - coolwind.co.uk
Finally got my Whippiteer maiden'ed by AG expert pilot Rich Elliot with Rich Harris in attendance. Rich H flies the wrong mode to maiden it for me, or... maybe its me that flies the wrong mode? Quite uneventfull but great to see it go without any tweaks or mods. Richard Harris
Great to see yours in the flesh Malcolm and good to get the two flying in a kind of formation. Here are a few photos I managed to take.
Chris Dowell
I have to agree that it fly's pretty true, straight off the board. Nice work Malcolm. Chris...
Richard Harris
Here is the video I took of the two flying together, just need you to pop over with yours Chris so we can fly three ....no pressure..... A few more modifications are needed, so I will make these to No2 model which is well on its way then update the plan. Rich
Chris Dowell
Very nice Rich.... I watched the full video of you flying last weekend. Must be a good feeling to see so many autogyros in the air and even better to know that you designed quite a few of them. I would fly with you and Rich E but three great models in the same air space...that's just too much of a good thing. Happy Landings Chris... Richard Harris
I ventured out to Old Warden in September where the wind was quite strong but straight down the airstrip, because of the COVID restrictions it was pretty much one model flying at a time. I managed a few flights with the Whippiteer, here is one of them taken by Don of Essential RC, toying with the breeze. Rich
Bob Bertram
Brilliant bit of flying and lovely model.
Stephen Jones
I will have to have a go at building one when it is out. Now i have had a bit of practice flying my own. Can you do a loop with them or is it pretty much what you demonstrated Steve.
Richard Harris
Thanks gents, I am really pleased with its flying characteristics now all the tweaking is complete. Stephen, Pretty much all autogyros will loop if there is enough power to hand. They will also snap roll, spin and even knife edge, though this is not so easy as it is with a fixed wing model. I recently witnessed a Whippit doing an impressive climbing spiral which I'd never seen before. You will like the Whippiteer, if I can pluck up the courage I will try a loop with the camera pointing at it. Stephen Jones
Thank`s for the reply Rich, I look forward to your video and explanation of what needs to be done . Having said that my Atom Looped after take off and that was the end of that. So i did not learn anything that day. Which is why i built the Lidl glider version as it would allow me to crash it a few times and carry on learning. Now i have a bit more understanding of what to do and how to react i need something to aim for . Although i may have to put some training wings on Steve. Bob Bertram
Hi Rich, What ever happened to the Whippiteer? Is it ever likely to appear in plan form for the magazine?

Bob Bertram
Hi Rich, I'm not surprised with such a fertile mind. The Gyroo looks great. I hope this is the year that I get to fly a gyro for more than a minute before crashing. If life doesn't get in the way!
