Whenever I'm starting an IC engine I mentally slow everything down, and consciously make very wide, slow exaggerated movements. It makes you very aware of where your hands are. I know I look like a knob, but I've never even had a tickle in 30 years.

I'd much rather look like a knob with two unhurt hands, than the alternative.

I do a similar thing. Slow and deliberate movements. Just as much when picking up the TX - don't want to drop it or bump the throttle by accident.

Even at idle, things can hurt.
