kevin b
Done a bit more today. Seems to be going together quite well.
Eric Robson
Hi Kevin, looking at it it seams the only options for fitting the motor is inverted or upright, 4st motors are popular for scale now mainly for noise reduction, I thought it would be better to have a side mounted motor in a radial cowl to make tank positioning better. Looking good so far, I thought you would sunburst red dye on a Japanese plane. Cheers Eric.
kevin b
The tank box is to one side, which leaves room for the silencer next to it for an upright engine. Exhaust outlet could be in an almost scale position. Here is today's progress. Still nobody interested in finishing it off though.
Eric Robson
Hi Kevin, just looked at the Zero drawings and a 61 two stroke does fit nicely in the cowl, at the current price of balsa I think that block on top of the fuselage where the guns go would be better as an ABS moulding. An ABS moulding would be good, but I don't think the demand would justify the time and costs. I built it up from off-cuts, the same as the big bits of balsa at the tail will be.
kevin b
Got a bit further with the fuselage and started the wings while waiting for glue to dry.
kevin b
Progress report. Have started planking the fuselage (not my favourite job). So far so good. Going to work on the wings next and build the supports for the retracts. The original had a fixed undercarriage, so the wings will need reinforcing.
kevin b
Managed to sort out the retract mounting without a lot of difficulty, or maybe I'm just getting used to doing it ! Once the wings are covered it will be time to line it up with the fuselage in order to fit the wing fairings and align the tail.
kevin b
Nothing much to see at the moment. The wings are being covered and the fuselage planked. The cowl has been tried on and the elevators made. I have also been doing some adding up as well. Does anybody want the uncovered airframe for less than the cost of the wood ? Paul De Tourtoulon
Yes, that is a good job,,, it was giving me nightmares, I dreamt that the bit that you sawed off fell into my shoe and made me limp all day ( my foot ! )
kevin b
Did I mention, I don't like sanding ?
Eric Robson
Sanding is not my favourite pastime either
Basil
I like sanding, apart from the dust, as its when things really start to take shape. Bas
kevin b
As Bas says, it is starting to take shape. Still a bit more to do though. It seems a shame that nobody on the forum is interested in finishing and flying it. Never mind. There is always "you know where".

kevin b
Oh aye lad. Up in God's country. It's the size that's the problem. I can box it up, but it is very large and expensive to ship.
EarlyBird
Yorkshire I would need to renew my passport to cross the bridge then there is the risk that I would not be let back into Lincolnshire ? East Leeds?

I can bribe the guards £1.50 and they let me in but it also costs £1.50 the other way.?
