Receiver for just switching on & off 8 items

Hi, i am looking for an 8 way receiver to just switch things on & off via "maybe" a plugin relay. Its to control some other things, not on a plane.
I have mainly got Spectrum, so was looking for somthing compatible. Now i am not sure, but i am assuming i cant use the speed control & servo control circuit's.

Any suggestions.

Any 8 channel receiver that is compatible with your transmitter will work. The limiting factor, depending what you are trying to achieve will be whether you have the available switches on your transmitter and can programme it to operate 8 functions via the switches, assuming that's what you are trying to do.

 

Have a look at this single remote switch, which plugs into a channel on your receiver. One receiver channel per switch.

Hi, sorry for not getting back. I am not getting notices for some reason. This is for controlling scenery light & points on an rc train layout. I have found a compatible receiver that seems to be programmable on the outputs, using a programmable card.  But cant find a video or any info i can understand.

Hi Christopher

There may be a little bit of misunderstanding here, but (in general) a receiver just outputs instructions to tell another device (servo, speed control, switch) what to do - it doesn't switch things on and off by itself.

To switch things on and off you need a device (a switch or relay) that plugs into the receiver and actually does the switching. There are various such "switches" mentioned in a number of the earlier answers and a quick check of the listed manuals will show how they work.

Hi, i think i have solved bit with the receiver above as i can use landing gear as 1 switch & Aux 1234 for 4 more. To these i can connect a relay/switch to give me 5 switchable items. With my transmitter "IN PHOTO BELOW" I can bind up to 12 receivers with each receiver having 5 switches. Now each receiver would normally control a train for forward/reverse horn, whistle & sound. With the transmitter below, i can control 12 trains, but would only want 3 or 4 running at once. So i now have the possibility to control 8 other receivers with 5 switches, = 40 switches & i can triple this as i can bind 3 receivers to one channel, so it could be 120 switches. Oh! The transmitter below works on a spektrum DSM2/DSMX internals. Just got to get 2 receivers & try it out.

A completely different approach to model aircraft and, on a quick look through, it seems that you need special receivers that include the "switches" and not our normal aircraft receivers. Although you could use aircraft Rx and add the switching devices mentioned previously.

I don't think you are quite there yet, unless I'm misunderstanding something. Yes you can use landing gear plus Aux 1,2,3 and 4 to give you 5 channels, but it not need to be limited to 5 channels. You could use all 9 channels if you wanted to and had a means of controlling them. There is absolutely no difference between these 5 channels and the other 4 (throttle, rudder, ailerons and elevator) as far as the receiver is concerned - they are all proportional channels that have the same operation. It is the transmitter that assigns the functions to the available channels.

The issue you have is that your Micron TX72v2 transmitter only uses a single channel (ch 7) with some clever means of modulating the throttle and two switches to allow 3 functions over 1 channel. I think you will struggle to achieve what you want with this arrangement.

By chance I have been investigating this system too, for a model train enthusiast here in the Netherlands. The "Selecta" knob is comparable with switching model memories in a regular RC transmitter. This means, as Dick has just mentioned, you need special receivers that will continue the last received channel information indefinitely. A normal Spectrum receiver would defer to the fail safe settings in such case, meaning that the relay will default to on or off, depending on the fail safe settings you have programmed for that channel.

( I also read about the manufacturer of that system having stopped production of certain types of equipment)

Hi, most rc train users go with deltang receivers with this transmitter. You can get the old & good R60 ones. But the more up to date & with more channels are not easy to find. i was told this builder is a one man band & is having trouble keeping up. This is why i was looking for an alternative. If i can get the transmitter to send a pulse, this would be fine as i can always use a latching relay.
