Replacing Sullivan Snakes

Recommended Posts

Never had any problem with  plastic snake expanding or contracting . Its a basic mechanical requirement that both ends of the outer cable are secured / fixed in position exactly the same way as a bowden cable should be fitted. Any expansion is then taken up by the cable , inner and outer expanding between the two fixed points. The middle of the cable should be supported but not fixed rigid like the ends.

Seems like a long discussion for what's should be a simple fix ?

Fixing Sullivan outers can be difficult as no glue seems to really bond them. My solution when  installing them is to wrap masking tape tightly around the end where its going to be anchored then when in place a drop of cyano is added .  A good strong bond is achieved and accurate strong movement of controls.

If we took the expansion theory vigorously then moisture would also come into play as the balsa airframe would also expand and contract , probably more than the snakes when humidity was at extremes.

Fix the outer ends of the snakes securely and let us know what happens then.
