cymaz
It’s a long saga but I will be brief. A local model shop was owned and run by 2 lovely gents, Maurice and Dave. Maurice passed away leaving Dave to wind up the business. He met a lady who then took him for nearly every penny he had. The T240 I purchased was to raise some funds for Dave as he’s fallen on hard times. Anyone else, I would have turned it down. So what did I buy? A mixed bag really.....the engine is a non-starter. An FTL 60cc ( the plane was going to be used as a glider tug), not even fit for a paper weight. The u/c plate was broken, the fin and tail snapped off, poor plumbing, no Rx, switches or batteries worth saving. I’ve begun to strip the wings. These are in good condition and built well and straight. Replace most of the fuselage underside. Shorten the firewall to fit a DLE30. Bought all new plumbing, electrics, and Rx. Also I will fit a new tailwheel once the repairs are complete
wolfmanjack
Hi Cymaz Great project .... More info and pics please... This is gonna be good. One of these is defo on my want list to build . As a newish flyer i cant wait to to get a classic larger model. I'm subbed. cheers Ian
cymaz
Can only get about an hour in after work, so progress is slow. Currently trying to build the choke lever. It will have a bell crank and pushrod under the fuselage. It’s a pain to get all the angles all lining up. Once done it makes choking the engine easy...pictures to follow! Engine Doctor
Hi a problem often encountered with the T240 was engine overheating . The cowling if unbaffled seems to divert air away from the engine. Some simple baffles when you get to that stage will sort the problem.
cymaz
The choke lever is coming on oh so slowly.... The bracket and push rod length is finalised. The rod has a double S bend. The push rod works it well. The bracket needs two fixing points in my view to stop any movement. The pivot point on the bracket must be far enough from the choke to get the right angle but not to foul up the fuel pipe on the carb. A little more work to get the arm length correct. I need the push rod to be nearer the fire wall for a second fixing bracket. I’ve done this choke lever on my Dragon Lady, it works well, though I do need to make a note of which way to push the rod for open or closed Edited July 2, 2021 by cymaz
cymaz
After nearly doing my nut trying to get the choke right....it’s done! For the ones watching, I’ve changed the servo arm. Anyway, now I can move on a bit and pleased with today. It’s windy and showery and therefore no flying, so I got as much done as I could. Tank plumbed in and pipework roughed in. Throttle cable run with new servo bearers. And finally trimmed the cowl and got it to where I’m happy. ? Now.....any suggestions where to put that switch? cymaz
Working on the cowl and engine cooling this morning as well as a few other bits...pictures! The ignition will go below the tank bay. The cooling baffles should be ok ?
cymaz
She has finally found some legs...longer than I wanted but they came with the airframe. Agricultural and fit for purpose. Also fitted the lower tail bracing bracket. Pitts exhaust/muffler and tailwheel should be here in the next week . I also have some tension springs on order for the UC damping
cymaz
Today it’s tidy the cabin up. Some scrap balsa screwed down to cover the old servo holes. Found a pilot in a box at the back of the garage. I think I will call him Joe Biden....can you guess why?? After coffee I’ll paint up the UC legs white Cabin done in cheap Halfords grey primer. I just happen to have an aerosol tin.
cymaz
Oh, this is why ....I NEVER THROW ANYTHING OUT ? Found an UC and wheels in the back of the cupboard. To be honest I really didn’t like the wire ones. These only need a splash of paint I will make some wheel hubs later
J D 8
Has the pilot been " Bidon " his time to fly again ? ? Don't know how those here feel but among fellow modelers we felt the 240 was not as good a flyer as the 180. However that may have been because they just did not have enough engine fitted. To small for the petrol's available at the time and big glows were pricy. Not a problem for you I recon.
cymaz
I ran a brand new DLE 30 for the first time yesterday. That’s what is going to fly it...should be adequate ? About thought the pilot and it came to me! He’s in a Precedent, every pun intended ??
wolfmanjack
Hi cymaz Joe's taxi is coming along nicely i reckon . And that DLE30 should certainly haul it around nicely as well. With a bit of paint n detailing the solid alloy undercarriage n hubcaps will look a treat. Any ideas on livery yet ? keep up the good work cheers Ian
cymaz
Plain white, blue pin stripe. Very simple. Decals from HERE. I’ve used these people a while now, always good.

Still, a freebie is a freebie)
cymaz
Spent today sanding and getting rid of the old blue and yellow dye left behind as the covering was removed. Also touched up the undercarriage with gloss white spray paint. I’ve got a pair of brilliant white Rc lights . Any suggestions where I can place them. Ideally I’d like them on the fuselage somewhere but if persuaded I will put them in the wing before covering Edited July 15, 2021 by cymaz
wolfmanjack
How about 1/3 to 1/2 way out on each wing leading edge, like a pair of landing lights .... good effect as plane is turning and coming towards you ? You will lose a lot of the effect of them on the top of the tail or under / top of the fuselage ...... You could fit both in the nose cowl pointing forward though .... But i like the wings idea. cheers Ian
Tony Bates
I have just acquired a new in box T240 and looking at your thread I need to update my thinking on engine size it was going to be Zenoah 26 which will probably be too small. I dont have a DLE 30 but an OS FT 300 twin. In your opinion would that be too heavy?

A 120 FS would have been a better option. Your Zenoah 26 will certainly fly it but ut depends what you want to do with the model.
cymaz
I’ve a DLE30 so that’s the engine in use! Zenoah aren’t light engines so that will help with any CG issues
cymaz
OK, after a break for some flying weekends, it’s now monsoon season again in deepest Cornwall. I’ve finalised the cowl holes and spinner shape for the prop. Very satisfied the way things have turned out. I needed to cut an inch off the exhaust outlet so it will fit over the cowl...there’s only just enough wiggle room but and inch is as good as a mile. I’ve got white ripstop nylon on order as well. cymaz
Put it together this morning and checked the cg. All batteries up front, tail servo to rear. Slight nose down on the main spar...that’ll do
cymaz
I forgot to ask, can anyone post where they put the cg??
