G-DAVE ( as it’s now officially called, named after the last owner) is back from paint. Anthony has done his magic. It’s high gloss diamond white 2k. It’s only cost me 12 Stella and a Tamiya Grasshopper build. Good value for money I reckon.

The blue pin striping is going to be done in the New Year. Have done lots of little, fiddly jobs. Tank install, tidy the wiring.....you know the drill.

Must order some new acetate sheet and double sided sticky tape for the windows.

We move on.......

Ignition, batteries and ignition to do now.

Decals from Vinyl Lettering Online. Excellent quality and turnaround again. I’ve modified the side windows as it’s my model. I like the way it just breaks up the huge area of glass.

Inching ever forward to the end....

All batteries, switches, opto isolator, wiring now finished. Now charging. I’ve decided to use 2 sub C 6v packs up front. If it’s too  nose heavy I’ll use a lighter eneloop 6v but I doubt it.

I went ahead and made a dashboard cover for the end of the tank. I will make an instrument panel later once everything is sorted. I found a  very old dial kit which has never been out the packet.

Engine run will be done without the cowl just in case adjustments are needed. The DLE30 has already be run, though you never know. The garage elves might have changed something now it’s in.

Cockpit glass now done. You can’t believe how tense I was heating up the plastic glazing to bend it, knowing at some point it could over heat and buckle!

All ready now for the engine run and hopefully maiden on Boxing Day

The finishing around the screen is more functional than tidy.

There was a couple of very minor issues that needed sorting and are now done.

The wing fixing through the cockpit needed beefing up. It did have aluminum round bar that slipped through aluminum tubing fastened by a small R clip. This caused some play between the wing and cockpit roof section. The solution was to remove the round bar, cut off the tubing flush and install a threaded insert and bolt. This makes less wiggle room for  the wing.

Also on the second taxi out the UC had now started to sag a bit. Now remedied by some threaded rod and a good large spring. It was what I had in the garage. We’ll have to see if it does the trick. If not it’s cost me nothing but it seems much less prone to rocking on the wheels
