Russ P
I'm trying to service a brushless motor but I can't pull the bell housing away from the main body. It moves about 6mm and that's it. On my smaller motors it just pull apart but on this larger motor it won't. Any suggestions. Thanks

Russ P
That was my first thought, I've checked and checked again and can't see anything I've missed.
Martin Harris - Moderator
Is there a hard stop? Could it just be strong magnetic force holding it?
PatMc
Do you have a good reason to "service" the motor in the first place ?
Russ P
The motor was "clunky" when I was turning it by hand so I thought the bearings needed changing/cleaning. The times previously when I've stripted a motor I've just pulled them apart. I think its just strong magnetic force holding it. Unable to get a good grip to pull it apart. Just thought i'd have a look as getting a new motor of the size I require might be a long wait due to stock availability.
Martin Harris - Moderator
Dodgy bearing/foreign object clunky or just feeling the pull of each magnet as it rotates? If it's got strong magnets the symptom and disassembly problem may be very much related!
Geoff S
All brushless motors feel 'clunky' as you turn them because of the magnets. The bigger and higher quality (ie stronger magnets, with minimal clearance, I guess) seem to feel the worst. I suspect the reason you're having difficulty pulling it apart is because of the strength of the magnets. I've suffered blood blisters because of trapping my skin when reassembling motors - they can be quite vicious ? Geoff
Russ P
Thanks for all the replies. I bought a new motor. I'll carry on trying though, if only to find a way of doing it.
