Laser 160 inline twin

OK so not strictly about fitting the 160 or the baffles for it but I thought I would just see how the CG was going to be effected. So I put the P51 in Vanessa and found that with the tail servos positioned at the tail end rather than midships (as Mike suggested a few posts back) the CG should be achievable.

What a PITB, fiddling around fitting the tail servos In the tail together with a tailwheel. At this stage I’ve not gone for a retractable unit, that may come later. I suppose this is only a tentative link to the 160i engine but it’s because of it that I’m doing this work, promise not to post any more until it’s time for the maiden.

Semi concealed rudder ‘horn’. (Bit of paint touch up required).

I just wish I hadn’t mentioned the potential tailwheel issue as it has been nagging away at me since I posted it! So first thing this morning I bolted everything together and plonked it on my trailer (nearest flat surface), needn’t have worried!

Thanks Mike and that CG is what I’m aiming for mine for its first flights. Talking of which, it’s nearly ready, just got to fit the wing servos and horns etc so keeping fingers crossed for next week, especially as the weather is looking half decent. Not sure if I’ll have time to print and paint a pilot in time though.

Are you still on the 16x8 prop?

Thanks Mike, great vid and still shot, makes me eager to get mine ready for its maiden, which may have to wait until next week now as I don't think I'll have enough time to finish it off before then.

If you want pair of the exhaust stacks then once I'm happy with them I'll send you a pair for yours.

Looking good Ron, one day I'll have to get a 3d printer and work out how to use it but at the moment uploading the flight videos is proving to be a challenge.

Nice video and the engine sounds great. TBH uploading videos to this site is harder than publishing them on Youtube given the (understandable) restrictions on size, format etc. Publish it on Youtube and all you need to do is post a link here afterwards, and it's far more accessible and searchable in the long run. Instructions...
