Allan Bennett
Any suggestions please for what glue might stick laminating film to fibreglass? So far I've tried the heating the joint to activate the laminate's own glue, 5-minute epoxy, cyano, and white wood glue without any success. PatMc
In the past when covering with Solarfilm etc I've applied masking tape to the area of fibre glass to be covered (e.g. wing joiner), this has always worked fine. Never needed to try with laminating film but it's probably worth trying.
Steven S
Cover Grip may help https://deluxematerials.co.uk/collections/emulsion-adhesives/products/cover-grip I've used for regular covering material and the Deluxe website says it will even attach aluminium foil. Allan Bennett
Ahh, I've still got a small bottle of similar stuff that Solar used to sell, so I'll give that a try. But the material I'm trying to stick is laminating pouch material, which seems to be different material from our normal covering films. Engine Doctor
Have you cleaned the fiberglass thoroughly ? The release agent ,if its a bought molding will need removing and then a gaining over with a scouring pad( green whinging up type will do) . If its fiber glass that you have applied then a good flat sanded surface is usually all that's needed. A coat of Solarfilms Clearcoat, if you can locate some, will also vastly increase the bond strength. Solarfilm still sell it apparently but won't post ? You can collect orarrange you own carrier. stu knowles
I have always just covered the glassed area with masking tape and then filmed over that. It has worked for me
Andrew Calcutt
You need a roll of laminating film that has a sticky side.A big roll is only about a fiver.
Allan Bennett
Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried Balsaloc, but no joy. The fibreglass in question is a home-made exhaust nozzle for an EDF which was throughly washed with soap and water to remove bonding agents, and then rubbed with a sander. The main part of the exhaust duct is a rolled, tapered, tube made of laminating pouch. It's anchored (I hope!) to the EDF with silicone sealant, and fits snuggly in the fibreglass nozzle at the other end. The lack of adhesion to the nozzle doesn't seem to be causing any problem in bench testing, so I haven't explored any other adhesives.
