Erfolg
I want to download a file from "Thingiverse" to a Flash Card. Apparently these files are compressed and require decompressing. I do not have Winzip installed as my Winzip free trial has expired. Is there a way without Winzip or similar software?
Jon H
download another winzip trial ? Alternatively there is 7-zip, winrar, or just use the extractor built into windows
Gary Manuel
7zip is free and works just fine. WinRar is free but only as a 40 day trial.

Gary Manuel
Good to know that Jon. I used to use WinRar but switched to 7Zip when my licence stopped working. 7Zip works just as well (better according to the bumf) so I use that now. Ron Gray
If it’s just zipped files then, as Jon says, just use the in-built extractor in Windows, no need for a separate program.
leccyflyer
Like the guys say, in Windows just right click on the file, select Extract All and chose the folder that you want to extract the files to. No need for any additional software.
Gary Manuel
OP didn't say what type of compressed file he was trying to open. I think that Windows Explorer only supports ZIP files. 7Zip supports RAR files (which is what I needed), TAR, 7ZIP and many others, including of course ZIP files. Ron Gray
Files from Thingiverse are zipped files so the built in extractor will work.
leccyflyer
Yep - the Zip files from Thingiverse just open up fine and you can extract them to wherever you like in your folder structure.
Erfolg
Somehow I have managed to install two compressed file extractors ( a mistake somewhere along the line). One is 7zip. One of them seems to have decompressed the files I wanted. I will now need to do some tidying up, as things soon become cluttered if i were just to leave the mess i have created.
