How do you post photos?

I drag and drop into the post then press the return key a couple of times to create a gap for text or between photos.

Firstly, I try to take photos in 'landscape' format in the first place, which fits the computer/forum screen better.  Here I have a picture taken in 'portrait' format, so lots of wasted space either side, and if you want to see large-scale detail then you have to scroll down:

 

 

So, if the picture can be rotated either way into 'landscape' format (without making the viewer seasick) then I do this.  At the same time I reduce the file size to 60 pixels across (which makes best use of the default space on the forum without being either unnecessarily large and wasteful of storage, or too small and harder to see without zooming in?

 

 

I also tweak the picture to make it as clear as possible, either automatically, or by individual adjustment of exposure, contrast, etc.  Here I just used the auto option:

 

 

Finally I always make sure there are line spaces between each photo, but also between photos and text.  Not having spaces makes it harder going for the poor viewer!

 

This then is the final result (which I also cropped slightly top and bottom to lose some unnecessary space):

 

 

It is of course a lot quicker just to bang photos in without adjustment or line spaces etc!  ?

Jonathan, I do the same as you with regard to rotate and crop in the picture editor but I resize after adding to the post by double clicking on the photo, the editor reduces the size to a reasonable size of 1000x800. ?

Denis, I have the photos in file explorer albums.

 

 

choosing files gives

 

 

to add into the post I hover over the photo and click on insert.

 

 

I then hit return on the keyboard twice to create space.

 

I can add text if I want and also add more lines

 

 

 

Then I double click on each photo to reduce the size. Obviously if you click on the photos they will display at full imported size.

EB, I didn't know if you double-clicked the photo in the editor before posting that you can re-size it here. 

 

So I've reduced the test photo to 500 wide using the editor, which is half the normal width I usually post.  But this (on my laptop screen) comes out as a bit small really - and I'd rather not have to click the picture so it opens at a bigger size in a new window, as I want to view it along with the text it refers to.

 

 

So perhaps a compromise size of 750 wide is best:

 

 

I don't know how big these come out on other people's screens.

I use 600 because that's what the old site used and clicking to enlarge I only use if there is detail I want to see. It's difficult to know what is best especially as there are so many devices with differing screen formats. I decided it's best not to worry and just use what works for me. ?

I’m trying to add a photo to a thread but no matter what I do it is upside down! I very posted other photos before without any problems??

Edit the photo first, it doesn’t need to be much even a simple auto adjust will do as long as it forces it to be saved. Then when you post it will be exactly as you saved it.

Thanks Ron. Tried to edit and saved an inverted photo but it still turned it upside down, so then I resized it and it has posted ok. I don't understand it but it worked.!

It’s all about changing something that then forces or asks you to save it, if it doesn’t then you haven’t changed the ‘core’ photo, e.g simply rotating it does not change the photo itself whereas adjusting the colour or contrast or cropping it will.

Crop is my favourite, to remove my toes and background clutter.
