Gary Murphy 1
I have just purchased a Enya 35-v, model 5225. I as no exhaust in the box. can not find no info on the Enya site, due to engines age perhaps. The engine as no holes to accept a bolt on type. Are there any after market options that will fit or does anyone have a part number ? i can see nothing. thanks
Alan Gorham_
Although Enya only make a small range of engines these days, they still retain parts for older motors. It's worth emailing them and asking if they can help. Ken Enya has helped me in the past. the email address (split up to avoid spambots) is: sales @ enya-engine.com
John Wagg
This is my Enya 35 muffler (1980s ?). Sorry not for sale. Currently using a homemade one using a jubilee clip to secure. (also 1980)
Rich Griff
Yes, ken in Japan, brilliant service and not what I would call expensive, unlike some places. Thanks again KEN, brilliant service.
Mike Etheridge 1
I have an Enya 35 fitted to a Cougar 2000. I am sure I obtained a silencer to replace the original from 'Just Engines'. I had similar noise output problems with Enya 45's and added secondary mufflers also from 'Just Engines'.
Mike Etheridge 1
The Enya 35 with replacement silencer installed in a Cougar is shown on the right. The other Cougar I had repaired for a club mate has a clapped out helicopter engine fitted. The original Enya silencers are insufficient to reduce the engine sound outputs to acceptable DB levels. Alan Gorham_
That looks like an Enya 30 or 40SS which uses a crankcase with drilled lugs to bolt the muffler onto. The Enya 35V case doesn't have any lugs and requires a separate metal clip as shown by John Wagg - ie a different silencer.
jeff2wings
Is it necessary for it to be an original Enya silencer? l have a few P&R strapon silencers available that would do the job
Gary Murphy 1
Hi Guys, thanks for the replies. As mentioned this is a old engine with no threaded holes to mount directly to,this stopped me using a after market item.Think this applied to JUST MOTORS stock. The Enya site i used did not show any engine parts for the most part OR strip down diagrammes, the supplied owners manual as no parts listed or diagrammes. I will contact KEN but i am not fixed on it being a Enya item, specially if the noise capture is not great. I also bought a Enya 19 iv ,this has a clap on muffler supplied. This is in need of a good clean.Again no strip down diagramme present,or parts list. So after taking the head off, no gasket of any king is present,is that correct? this is a 4004 model
Rich Griff
There is a UK shop agent for Enya, in Kent ? from memory. They didn't have parts for the 06, that's why I contacted ken in Japan. Can't remember the name of the shop or company....
Engine Doctor
No Enya agents in Kent Rich . Only agent for Enya im aware of is Steve Webb models in Frodsham . There may have been in yesteryear but not now. Edited January 25, 2022 by Engine Doctor
Jonathan W
As others have said, the Enya 5224 and 5225 models were designed for a clamp-on or strap-on muffler. The original Enya clamp-on mufflers did not give very good noise reduction and the clamps tend to work loose. They do come up on ebay from time-to-time if you wished to stick with originality. A strap-on muffler, such as the old P&R mentioned would be better. Alternatively, there are small lugs either side of the exhaust port with pre-made "dimples" intended as a guide to drill holes through the lugs. This needs setting up carefully in a drill press. There is not much meat in the lugs, so drilling freehand risks the drill wandering terminally off course. The holes will end up at 32mm centres, if you can find another silencer or manifold to match that spacing.
David Davis 2
I used to have a Merco 35 in a Telemaster 66. The original Merco silencer was not very effective so I fitted a strap-on P&R Silencer. I found that it did not reduce noise very much until I filled the gap between the inner perforated tube and the outer tube with loft insulation. That quietened it. GONZO
I've modified Enya 35's to take an ASP/SC 52 silencer. The ASP/SC 52 silencer holes are closer together(NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT FEASABLE TO DRILL THROUGH THE LUGS TO THE OTHER SIDE) than the external dimension over the OUTSIDE of the lugs. So, I milled(you could possibly carefully file) two grooves on the outside of the lugs from exhaust face to the rear step such that there was just clearance for the bolts screwed into the silencer. This has the added benefit of providing rotational support for the now much longer silencer to stop it twisting about the exhaust face. I used the formed Enya thickish metal strap squeezed together to provide a place for the screw heads to pull up against(same as when using a standard Enya silencer). This has worked well and takes the 'bark' out of the 35 with the standard silencer. Do not over restrict the exhaust of these cross flow engines as they will get very hot. jeff2wings
P&R were available in three sizes, here's my Enya 35 with the smallest fitted ,if one is suitable, let me know
Nigel R
I have a feeling I have one of those P&R silencers doing nothing, I'll have a rummage later.
David Davis 2
Looking at Jeff 2 Wings picture, my Merco 35 must have been fitted with the largest of the P&R silencers. As already stated, with the space between the perforated tube and the silencer body packed with loft insulation it was pretty quiet.
svpetar
Hi, Are these mufflers still for sale? Regards, Petar
David Davis
I believe that P&R silencers are no longer made. Just Engines used to supply BCM strap-on silencers but they are showing "out of stock" on their website. However, they still sell the straps o if you can find an old silencer you may be able to strap it onto your engine. https://www.justengines.co.uk/shop/exhaust-systems/two-stroke-exhausts/bisson-custom-mufflers-by-engine-manufacturer/universal-strap-on/bcm-strap/?v=11aedd0e4327 Otherwise I'll see what I have amongst my souvenirs. I've owned several Enya engines, my Enya 50 powers the club's Boomerang trainer, and I think that I may still have some of the exhausts. If I have any you may have them for the cost of postage from France,
David Davis
I have a strap-on Kavan silencer which should suit your engine. The strap is probably not serviceable but it's yours for the cost of the postage from France. PM me if interested.
