Andy J
Acquired some years ago a highly detailed Svenson 1/6th scale Storch kit minus its ailerons and flaps. Now in the process of building the missing parts using a design taken from a 1/4 scale plan (appropriately scaled) but stuck as to how the hinge mechanism allows an upward movement of the aileron. This is because the hinge point is placed under and rearward of the aileron LE so when the aileron moves up its LE moves down and fowls the hinge arm strut protruding from the wing. Found the attached graphic on line which I think answers my problem as can see that the leading edge of the aileron appears to have slots cut forward of the hinge. So does anyone still have a Svenson kit and can confirm the ailerons do indeed have slots cut into the leading edge of the ailerons to avoid fowling the hinge arm? Manish Chandrayan
Studying the plans on OZ I see that at sheet 2, section G-G does indicate the extent of movement of the ailerons (in dotted lines) and the LE of the aileron does seem to overlap the hinge. Which indicates that your inference of slots to allow that movement is correct
David P Williams
Haven’t seen a Storch up close but other full size aircraft I’ve seen with those type of hinges have had slots to clear the hinges
Manish Chandrayan
Additionally, there is a thread on RCG, if you look at picture 10 you will clearly see the slots for the hinges Edited March 11, 2022 by Manish Chandrayan
