Laser Engines nostalgia.

Then was then and now is now (not castor), the materials use and clearances in old engines is different to modern engines + increased performance/reliability achieved nowadays.

 

Interesting to see Neil tested supercharging and that reliability and usability were the focus over just out and out power. Not sure about steel rockers, but can see the logic for model engines.   

 

We were using synthetic oil in motorcycle racing 2 strokes at 40:1 and some even went as far as 80:1 (within the recommendation of the oil manufacturer) in the mid 1980's. A motorcycle speedway engine manufacturer even produced (very successfully) methanol engines without total loss oil lubrication by employing semi wet sumps although the engines were rarely inverted on purpose! I picked up on the point that Laser engines are built to last even with a wide range of operator skill.   

 

Lets hope one day we could get Jon to talk about the Laser inline and flat twin developments of recent times + the testing of lower oil content fuel and its advantages. Oh and those petrol thingies...
