But is it cheap enough? 100 cycles from LiPos if you're lucky?

There are other, more significant issues with electric
a) LiPos take forever to charge (each one takes over an hour on my 6-330d);
b) You have to keep an eye on them whilst they're charging;
c) Each pack provides a flight of only 6-10 minutes, depending on throttle use.

I don't think the preparation time vs. flying time equation stacks up. For that reason, I'd rather whatever subject is chosen be designed for I.C. as well as electric.

It would be nice to see a civil craft :-

My choices are

De Havilland DH85 Leopard Moth  about 60inch span for electrics

PZL-104 Wilga 3P  about 60inch span for electrics

Bristol Type 170 Freighter Mk31 again 60inch span for electrics

Fingers crossed and thanks Tony and David for this excellent idea each year

Cheers

Hi,
My choice would be:
Civil:

1/ Miles Messenger
                                             ??Maybe include options for both on the plan??
2/ Miles Gemini

3/ DH Chipmunk

Warbird:

1/ Martin Baker MB5

2/ Fairey Firefly

3/Dewoitine D520

No one could dislike T N enough to ask him to create a70 - 80" span Lysander. He might like the challenge but that surely is up to him. Without the slow fly devices they have a reputation of only flying like rockets - and you won't get the slow fly devices such as slats and variable incidence tailplane without adding far too much weight. Or is that the challenge?  !  !
Whirlwind is good;
but what about a multi with twin booms? Google Sikorsky S 40. Now how would you do that?
Or even a Westland Welkin!

After much cogitation...

Antonov AN-72 Coaler: Unusual medium airliner with the turbofans mounted atop a high wing.

Fairy Rotodyne: 1950s airliner with a massive rotor blade and propellors for good speed and VTOL. And a classic example of the UK aircraft industry leading the way in innovation until the politicians screwed it up. Again.

TSR2: The small wing would be a design challange and it's a sexy looking beast. It would have been a world beater, unfortunatly, the politicos... (see above!)
