Peter Miller
I had two flights in the Tiger. One was going looking for a model that was sent off with the TX switched off. Thinks:"Must put some more pictures of clouds on or I will be kicked off this thread."
Peter Miller
Sorry about the models cluttering up the clouds

Peter Miller
Very nice. Now here is a tip. If you want to bring out clouds against a blue sky buy a circular polarising filter and take the pictures at 90 degrees to the sun. The filter will allow you to vary the amount of the effect as will changing the angle
Stephen Grigg
So much going on in the same sky All taken at the same time
Gemma Jane
Similar tip to Peter's for those using digitals, experiment with 'unsharp mask' in Photoshop if you have it. This isn't cheating, camera's like my Canon 350D do not post process the image, in effect it is like they haven't gone through the full development process of a flim camera. With clouds that results in a very soft undefined image which often looks dissappointing compared to what one actually saw. The functions 'sharpen' and 'unsharp mask' are there to put back the dramatic image you actually saw and if you like it helps to make it even a touch more dramatic! This is all to do with the way this type of digital camera handles the light, this sort of post processing is necessary, not as some would put it, 'photoshoping' the image. 001
This was the Me 109 'Buchon' at Duxford last year, just before the rain came. Scanned from a print with very little contrast added!
David Ashby - Moderator
Just had a round-robin email that had this.......... These are Mammatus clouds. "True to their ominous appearance, mammatus clouds are often harbingers of a coming storm or other extreme weather system. Typically composed primarily of ice, they can extend for hundreds of miles in each direction and individual formations can remain visibly static for ten to fifteen minutes at a time. While they may appear foreboding they are merely the messengers - appearing around, before or even after severe weather".

Robin Coombs
We get those a lot here followed by a hail storm. As soon as I see them I put the cars away, just in case. One year it was so bad the hail stones were as big as oranges and went straight through the wings of a 747 at JIA. Awsome to watch but rather painfull to be out in.
