Thread: Weston UK Web. Site Problem.
13/06/2018 18:51:21

I ordered some fuel from Weston UK yesterday and it arrived this morning. Excellent service I have to say. However they are having problems with their Web Site which would not accept my card details in the final stage of the ordering process despite trying several times.

When I called I found that the details of my order was on their system, so I only had to provide my card details to complete the order. If you experience the same problem, don't give up in frustration as I nearly did, just give Weston a call.

I understand that Weston have not been able to contact the people who host their web to sort out the problem. They have apparently posted messages about the problem, but I didn't see them.

I think a rather large hammer would be better than a few parts.

Of the 35 members in our club, only 3 of us are Forum members. Not sure what that says, but that's the situation.

Interesting. Do you happen to know if the others use other Forums or Facebook?

One or two use the Balsa Model Builders Association on Facebook and that's about it I think.

Thread: Engine test stands
22/05/2018 22:14:01

You can see from the pic below the sort of problem I experienced. Here my SC 30 FS can't be mounted properly because the cam cover is fouling the cramping bar, even though I filed a taper on the corner in an effort to make it work.

Just wondering if those stands on ebay **LINK** are a direct copy of the old Irvine test stands or are they a bit bigger ?

I've got one of these, but having tried to fit several engines in it, I found I had to make a paxolin plate for each engine before I could mount them. Rather defeats the object.

Thread: Solarfilm

The American based Facebook page Balsa Model Aircraft Builders Association with over 26,000 members worldwide are always lamenting the demise of Solartex. It seems there is still a big demand for Solafilm products and Solartex in particular.

Thread: Specsavers.

All this talk of eyesight problems reminds me of something that happened to one of our club members one Sunday afternoon last year. I know he wont mind at all if I tell this cautionary tale.

There he was happily flying his model around the field at some height, it must be said, when something took his attention away from the model for a moment. When he looked at it again, it was flying away from him and panic set in when he found it wasn't responding to his controls. He then realised that the aircraft he was trying to pilot was, in fact, a real ,similar shaped, aeroplane heading for the nearby Cardiff Wales Airport.

A quick look around revealed that his own model had come to no harm and surprisingly was still flying down the other end of the field. His model made a safe landing, I can't vouch for the other. wink

I've been using Specsavers for around 10 years, since I need glasses in fact, with a visit every two years. Recently I've been experiencing optical migraines, apparently harmless and short lived. During my regular visit, last week, the optician thought they are almost certainly caused that the sight in one eye is now different to the other. Hopefully my new prescription will help reduce the number of episodes.

Like BEB I went for the 2 for price1 deal choosing to get the second pair of varifocals tinted. My problem now is that the Memsaab thinks they make me look a spiv. smile d

Just had a leaflet through my door, some very nice glasses that'll make me look like Kylie Minogue....I should be so lucky. heart

If the Zenit E which Kylie is holding was my camera of choice, I'd be looking for new glasses as well. 😋

Thread: Coffee And Biscuits.
11/04/2018 11:52:36

If like me Coffee and Biscuits are essential in a workshop, and if like me you have a Dolce Gusto machine but think the Nescafe pods are a silly price, ( £4.49 in Tesco ) get yourself down to Lidl and try their Bella Caffe coffee pods which are Dolce Gusto compatible. £2.49 for 16 pods. At the moment they only seem to stock Lungo and Cappuccino. Excellent coffee in my humble oppinion.

Thread: Micro RM Trainer
07/04/2018 10:46:37

I'm following this build with some interest because I printed off the plan for the Teeny Trainer some time ago with the intention of putting my ENYA 09 Quicky in it. I was put off by the size of the fuel tank compartment, so small that I would probably have to make a tank to fit, but might still might get round to building it at some time.

I was interested by designer John Rutter's comment that a built up wing with a "real wing section improved the glide but had little effect otherwise". Have you given your wing any sort of profile or have you simply rounded over the leading and trailing edges?

Nigel have you seen the Teeny Trainer on Outerzone? Not too far away from your design

Thread: Super Sixty 84
05/04/2018 16:58:19

Here's an interesting take on the original design. Note the repositioned tailplane, inverted motor and barn door ailerons. The tail fin has also taken on a new look.

I imagine 84 is a reference to the year it was redrawn.
