Thread: XM+Rx
22/09/2019 17:33:00

Thanks Dennis, I was aware of the X8R thread and Ignition problems as I did post on it towards the end. The Rx8R Pro Rx I have been using is fine with no interference problems from ignition, wanting to add another Rx for the Redundancy (slave) feature possible, they reccomend using the XM+ and NOT another Rx8R Pro as it won't operate correctly. No use me using spare X8R Rx which I have as I know they fail from experience in a Gas plane. Any tests on XM+ and Ignition engines? You would think if they suggest the XM+ as redundant slave to the Pro that it was safe with Ignition units ....... or would you!

A quick question! Is the XM+ Receiver on EU LBT safe to use with spark Ignition? Thinking to use one as Redundancy to the RX8R Pro Rx. Having lost a model on spark using the X8R Rx, i am cautious. Had no problems with the Pro and D series all good too.

Thread: Warning X8R RX - do not use with CDI on IC powered 'planes

Found this thread rather late from a clubmate (thanks Alan) I lost a model late last summer running a X8R and Rcxcel ignition unit, failure/crash was a mystery until now! I experienced the odd very fast fail safe hold on the odd occasion, so fast i wasn,t sure it even happened. Tested everything and found no problem, just re routed the aerials (not the board type antenna) and range tested, all good. The final incident was during a touch and go when the model violently rolled from 6ft or so the wing tip striking the ground. Worst senario, was it me? Checked model over all was working, the only clue was the bent aileron linkage showed full deflection when it struck the ground. Nothing worse than suspecting radio link failure. I decided to replace the Rx and noticed the X8R Pro on T9 site! Alarm bells rang. Model repaired with new Rx and no more problems. I never had the telemetry lost warning on the previous Rx. I have since replaced my other Rx,s to the Pro on other petrol models, lucky not to loose those too.

Thread: Jumper T16
06/05/2019 11:56:39

Pleased to report D8 Rx,s and Jumper Module work fine with the T16. Telemetry and Range all good. Another question please. There's a new Jumper update available to download for firmware to give multi screen option and improved scroll wheel. Only ever loaded open tx to my Horus 12S, not updated. Can you guy's give me some procedure gudance please? I understand the T16 connects to the latest version of Companion if needed or should I just remove the Card and update direct from PC (windows). Appreciate help. Rob.

28/04/2019 18:07:31

Thanks Mike, the DJT module was not modified as you mention. Explains no telemetry fed to the jumper! Me being thick assumed it would feed data into the Tx via the internal pins. Tried different Rx numbers on bind as a precaution to keep away from existing in use. This is a big curve but getting insight into the kit, too many abreveations, protocols and the price of onions frown

28/04/2019 17:02:53

You are are right, found the manual. Will bind with 7 and 8 signal pins jumped and try ....... also noticed smart port not available in this mode ! Was hoping to use the smart port Lipo V sensor. Will it Never End sad

28/04/2019 16:28:27

I have caused confusion Pete, the X8R Rx has never had the jumper used during bind so it has remained on EU Lbt D16 protocol which it had new .Have only tried all the EU bind options on the jumper Tx which clearly do not work for me. To clarify can you tell me which pins to jump during bind to operate on D8 please. ( it does bind and work correctly on my Horus D16 Lbt). Sorry

28/04/2019 15:05:00

Hi Pete, I tried the bind to the X8R in all modes available to me. ie D8, D8 16Ch and 8. EULBT and LBT 8Ch. Also XJT D16. From memory only two of these modes managed a bind at all..... LBT 8Ch and LBT. I carried out the fine tune as per the Github video loosing signal at + and - ends of tune indicated by Red LED, made calculation and set accordingly and Re bound to no avail. I am no Geek where where this stuff is concerned so reliant on you guy's for guidance. I wiil try another D16 LBT X8R just in case! Happy the D8 series kit works anyhow.yes

Update! Despite the tune procedure to the X8R Rx, it still refuses to work properly. Forget that one till there's update. On a side note i was operating the D8R and 4R Rx's on a DJT Tx module fitted to my aged JR 10S Tx, formerly on 35meg. It all worked fine, alas no telemetry and model matching. The Tx screen was very tired and liable to fail (only had 20 years use!) So along came Jumper T16. I intended to swop out the multi protocol module and use the DJT, which i tried and still no telemetry! Why i do not know. So now on the supplied module and all appears good with D series Rx's so far. Ground range test is probably better than i get with my Horus 12S. So cautious test flights imminent.

Thank,s Mike and Kevin. Re update, the scroll wheel is a bit annoying as it increments every other indent which makes it "slow". Currently only allows one home screen, no big deal but nicer to have options with update. Will try the fine tune on the X8R on the bench. Reading the Github blurb the D8 Rx's can suffer the same tune issue, but mine worked off the bat with great RSSI figure. Software correct for that one ?? Regards to all!

27/04/2019 18:21:26

That's great info Pete. I noticed the "fine tune" option in the Tx menu and was not sure what it was about. Thought it odd to achieve a bind and poor servo control and also noticed the green LED flashed rather dim. I thought poor signal ,but surely too easy! I will proceed with caution on the X8R Rx on the bench. Actually I only need the T16 to run D8 Rx's but wanted to find out what was going on! Was not aware it was possible to send a D16 mode Rx to D8 on bind via a jumper. Thank you. Cheers.

Managed to get hold of the new Jumper Tx. Quite impressed so far. Managed to Bind succesfully to FrSky D8 Receivers (D4R and D8) both managed telemetry as well. Been trying to Bind to X8R Rx LBT protocol. The Tx module does support EU LBT . The Receiver shows as bound ie green led pulsing but the servo output is jittery and telemetry is missing, any ideas out there please?

Thread: Servo programmer
21/04/2018 17:39:35

I have the Servo / S Bus programmer which I have used successfully on the 4 channel Decoder to assign channel to servo. I appear to be missing some programme options on the very small osd menu. Can i update the firmware on the unit via FrSky web download page? If so do i need an interface lead/tool. Just asking so i don't waste time attempting summit daft! Thanks all.

To put two penneth in! Horus 12S has one really big advantage over the 10. That is the screen position, clear line of sight to read data, no neck strap in the way and only a glance down. The neck strap arms work well, only 20 quid and tx still fits in the case when fitted. I find the extra weight very comfortable.

Hi everyone. Found this thread a bit late. I have built same using a petrol ASP120 4c. Converted myself. Also using e flite 120 retracts. Walbro carb means my fuel tank is positioned much further back than plan, in fact under the sevos. The original fuel tank housing now carries a 3s 2200ma li pi to provide all the power for radio, retracts and ignition via 6V u bec. My AUW ready to fly less fuel is 10lbs 3oz. I have no ballast with CofG as per plan. If you have test flown yet? How did you get on? I am ready to go, pending on runway drying out! If anyones interested i have lots of build pic,s. Also mounted my exhaust behind engine on firewall, so nothing hanging out.

Thread: Card version Error
04/03/2018 09:11:23

Info appreciated chaps. It will be the "cheat" for me I think when the card is in the PC next timewink

02/03/2018 13:05:29

Firstly thank you to those who replied to my companion question. So, I get card version error on tx start up. This causes me no probs that I know of. I know what the cause is, so my question is if I download the correct version file and copy/overwrite to my current SD card will it affect my model settings and sound files I have in use at the moment. I have added several TTS/Automate sounds. May be safer to leave as is? Cheers all.

Thread: Companion

Can anyone help me with the ! Symbol accompanying switches in menu selection. Have experimented on companion and modified how switches operate but i must be missing a lot more? Recall something about using to achieve "constant trims" on elevator etc when using dual/ tripple rates. I need to sort that as all my models have varying trim offsets using my rates. Fortunately it's no mre than a click between high/low rates. Cheers all.

An update! Highlighted the throttle trim idle only box in model page set up as Bob suggests, and now have full trim travel available @ servo. Another lesson learn't. Great.
