Fed up! Not likely looking forward to Saturday - roads will be deserted so should have a good run out.

Thread: expo for beginners yes or no ?

I learned to fly recently and did not use expo on aileron and elevator. However, I found I had a tendency, when advancing the throttle for take-off to feed in a little rudder input. 30% expo on the rudder mitigated the problem and my small stick errors were damped out - result straight take-offs. I still fly in this configuration zero expo on aileron & elevator, 30% on rudder.

As for rates I set them and usually maiden my model on low rates once satisfied all is well I use full rates.

With all respect to Kevin (this is not a personal criticism) this is exactly why you shouldnt use expo when learning. Instead of learning to move the throttle accurately the error is being masked by the expo and by his own admission that state is set to continue, most likely for the rest of the time he is a model pilot.

Its a far better bet to learn to move the sticks accurately in the first place. All of my students do the same with the throttle/rudder interaction so you arent alone in that, but within a handfull of takeoffs and some dedicated rudder training they soon kick the habit.

No offence taken Jon, couldn't agree more with you, I have been taught to fly with the rudder and use it when needed in flight and on approach, unfortunately I'm no spring chicken and have the equivalent of golfers 'yips'.

Not just the moors, some intelligent people's barbeque blew over on Lytham green on Saturday and you guessed it the green went up in flames, a few hours later the Nature Reserve on Clifton Drive in St. Annes was ignited the main link road between St. Annes and Blackpool was closed for hours as 5 fire crews fought to extinguish the flames.

Padded room and throw away the key springs to mind!

Went to Morcambe today thought I'd have a walk along the prom a bite of lunch and visit Model & Hobby Word on Albert Street.

Found the prom, found lunch, found Albert Street but no Model & Hobby World shop - perhaps its only going to be an inter-web shop.

Has anyone placed an order with this shop?

Hi Levanter,

I have spruce, just a bit confused with the differing instructions. So spruce it is - many thanks.

I'm\building the Flycatcher from the plan and following the build blog images posted here and am a bit puzzled. The plan shows the upper longerons being 1/4 square balsa, but the blog says 1/4 square Spruce.

Anyone who has already built the model advise?

One of the greatest inventions in the history of mankind is the on/off switch on the TV receiver. smile p

The off switch doesn't seem to work, when the wife has the controller..

The off switch in our house works, SWMBO always has the controller she can't stand footbore, really enjoying the peace and quiet.

Gentleman Gary Lineker played top flight football, including wearing an England Shirt for 16 years and

Was never booked for a foul

Gary Lineker was booked by a traffic warden though. wink

Isn't he more famous for flogging crisps?devil

Never heard club members mention football so I suspect, weather permitting, the strip will be packed this month. I won't be watching a single second of the football, I don't understand all that hysteria. However I appreciate some people enjoy watching and there are lots of other channels packed with rubbish to choose from.

The chap who taught me to fly always stood behind his model for take-off, strangely I never have done this as even when learning stood to the side.

Like Kevin says, the novice starts off behind the model, being the safest place if the model veers right or left

Denis you misunderstood me even when learning I stood to the side for take-off never behind the model as I liked to gauge speed and distance.,

It was the club member who taught me to fly who always stood behind his model. As we were not using a buddy box this did not pose a problem for him..

Hi Percy he said he had walked down Albert Road and most of the shops were closed. Don't think he rang the number. If I can I may visit the week on 11th and look for myself.

Agree the web-site is filling quickly so there is activity..

A club member was in Morcambe on Wednesday and said he could not find the M&HW shop. Has anyone visited it?

Percy

The 'free' suppliments don't particularly interest me, but I can understand the frustration of the overseas readers who don't get the chance to have a hard copy

Edited By Cuban8 on 16/03/2018 07:48:28

Cuban 8 - Picked up my RCME this morning the free supplements are not of any interest to me as well, the latest 'Freebee' being boats. Just heading for the recycle bin would rather the RCME issue price was less.
