Thread: S8R Rx
02/03/2017 19:32:06

Anyone using an S8R with a Taranis Plus?

I've been using several X8Rs over the last three years and shortly will need more RXs.

The new S8R is only ~£1 more than the X8R so it seems silly not to go for the stabiser option.

I read in another thread that the S6R is a bit complicated to set up with a Plus Tx.

Any experiences/tips people?

TIA Shep

Eagle899, I used to have a 1/5 share in that Auster with Dick Larder and a couple of others in the mid-nineties. It was painted then in silver with yellow bands with markings of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force squadron that it was with in 1946. Small world, when were you involved with it?

Small world indeed Colin; I had a 1/5 share for several years from 2002 and flew out of a strip at Streethays Farm, by the A38. Shep

Reminds me of an Auster too.

It takes me back to when I used to fly this one out of a farmstrip near Lichfield, Happy Days.ajae_streethays.jpg

And I'll be happy to see those
Nice young men in their clean white coats and

Shep: thanks for that, presumably you upgraded OS to Windows 10 . I've done that on another PC and had no problems with already installed programs. Sometimes those won't install on a fresh windows 10 build...

Norm

Correct, I installed it on W7 before W10 install....................we need a test pilot thinking

I use TurboCAD 18 and it works fine in Windows 10, so I imagine later versions will also.

XT60s can also be a pain to separate.

I experienced that with XTs, then I read about a very good solution:-

Carefully drill very small holes in each side of the XT and use outside circlip pliers to separate, works a treat.

Logical switches example 1 - the sticky throttle cut

Well a traditional throttle cut is useful for electrics, but has a dangerous failure mode – if you flip it by accident when the throttle stick is raised the motor will go instantly to the throttle level set by the stick with potentially nasty consequences.

Hands up who hasn't done that! I've used SF as a standard throttle switch for some time and made that mistake once, luckily no damaged digits etc., After that I treble check the throttle is closed first but this sticky throttle is excellent.

Thanks Matty and BEB for sharing your expertise yes

There was never any secret about the fact that Taranis used OpenTx, and I suggest many people have sucessfully gone over to it. A significant number of them are on here - and the drone world is full of them where it is very much the Tx of choice!

Also I might point out that while I use Taranis this thread isn't about the Tx as such - its about the software OpenTx - which as you say is available of other transmitters.

BEB

I've been using Taranis/Open TX/Companion for about two years and think it's the bees knees.

How about a survey to find out what percentage of forumites are using this system versus Futaba, Specky et al?

I find it easy to make a decision just ask the wife , the answer is always No!

Trying to access the BMFA website this morning and my anti-virus tells me the website certificate has been revoked and won't let me get to the site. Has someone forgotten to renew their certificate, or is it my system somehow?

Looks like it, but if you remove the s from https then you can still view the ads:-
