Thread: How far do you travel to the nearest decent model shop?
28/06/2020 20:32:23

I'm in the next village along from Sussex Model Centre, so two-and-a-bit miles.

The 9" prop will be for the 4cell setup. For 3cells, you will need an 11" prop, as per the recommendations on the Cambrian website.

No benefit for me - I'm still working...

Thread: battery postion ?
25/04/2020 08:20:09

It is generally accepted that battery to ESC should not exceed 20cms - the ESC to motor can be almost as long as you like!

You can extend the ESC to battery leads but you then get into fitting extra spike suppression capacitors to protect the ESC.

Thread: Anyone still using a balsa stripper?
18/04/2020 10:37:37

I fixed mine to a 30 x 100 x 1cm piece ply with small countersunk screws so it is well solid 😀

In fact, I've had it so long it would have been in proper imperial measurement!

I've had a SLEC one since they first came out. I've mounted mine on a board so that all is rigid & square. Best thing since sliced bread!

I have a 4300 KV motor in the original fan unit. On 3S it goes really well, performance is up with similar sized Dynam & Eflite edf models.

Thread: Winter is here....who's been flying?

Got out with some friends and the old SAS Fusion yesterday. Blue sky, bright sun but blimmin' windy!

It was good to combat!

If you want a vintage model with ailerons, search for 'Jackdaw' on this site. Designed for ailerons from the start, a plan is available on Outer Zone.

Another vote for the Aeromaster. Mine was the 'too' version - equal span, 52" swept wings. Had it long, long ago, built from an original Lou Andrews kit!

Thread: Anyone else been up diddly up up on New Years Day?

Yup,

Both New Years Eve and New Years Day at the Sussex RFC site. Cold & breezy, but at least it stayed dry and I didn't break anything 😀

Many, many years ago, I built a Splot from the Sussex Model Centre kit. A cool 36" span fun-fly that was in at the beginning of the dedicated funfly model genre.

Would anyone have a PDF of the plan for one of these please? IIRC there was enough info on the plan to build from.

I've had a look on Outerzone, but to no avail!

The electric lightbulb analogy is spot-on. Replace it and enjoy your flying.

Thread: Pack flat field stand

I've been using the SLEC foldable flight mate over this season.

I can thoroughly recommend it as a saver of knees!

Thread: fav model of all time

Got to be a WOT 4! I haven't been without one since the first kits came out - kit, artf or foam, ic or electric, they all do what you want to do.

I may not take one every time I go to the field, but they are always prepped and ready to go.

Thread: Lipos ?
28/06/2018 15:58:26

I agree with MattyB, although I use 60% as the constant. I also use this rating for my esc's as well. If they're not working too hard, they'll last that much longer 😀

Absolutely Matty! Knowledge is always a good thing.

However, in the context of the OP, my explanation has not led me far wrong.
