Copy of Lyndsay's post

Gents image below is from the original plan sent into the mag, I have identified the centre line and position of first two ribs out, hope this helps clarify any irregularities found. Lindsren.jpg

Apologies Lindsay just noticed my mistake with your name

Hi Tony

Ive not started the wings yet and as you know working blind most of the time but didnt Todd Lindsey say something in the general thread, to the effect that the distance between one of the spars near to the fuselage should be less than the others. I was assuming that would pull the wing length in to the centre line. I was planning on using that info when i got there.

Did you do Todd's measurement and still 15mm past centre line or followed plan and moved line 15mm.

Or possibly im miles out with all this theory

Cheers

Jim

Thanks Tony. Slowly I'm getting to the sheeting stage so useful to have these details.

Hi Tony, more questions if i may. I know i need some YouTube lessons before i start to sheet the fuselage but have you put a thin packing strip between the two halves or is it the light in the photo. Also the packing piece you have fitted at the end have you rounded it or left it square.

Thanks

Jim

Welcome Matt. Looking good and i admire you for doing your own cut outs. There is a wealth of experience doing the build and the folks are very helpful, i am learning all the time and look forward to learning more from yourself

Cheers

I hadn't realised at the time but it was out of square consequently when i tried to fit the solid piece that follows it there was a gap. I had to remove F7 and the stringers top and bottom and the cross members between F6 and 7. I haven't glued it back together yet but the dry clamping looks ok. Also the bottom stringers for some reason are now to short so i need to add some on.

Dont bank on it Chris. Spent last night doing F7 again, then discovering i was till wrong the photos helped no end.....they showed me i was miles out. ahhh well it adds to the experience 😁

Hi folks. I am reading the posts you are all making with great interest and would ask a favour, could you post a picture showing the problem/resolutions. Most of what you are saying is going over my head especially as i have not started the wings yet and am still working on the fuselage

. I have found all of your photos of the fuselage an absolute boon as i progress and refer to them and the drawings together all the time.

Thanks in anticipation of your help

I am still waiting for some wood that is out of stock. I believe it is the leading edge but not sure if this is all.

25/03/2019 12:05:52

Hi Chris. I have 2 sheets of 3mm in my pack which I'm assuming is for the fuselage. There is no 1.5mm. I am buying some 2mm to replace the 3mm as comments already expressed are that the 3mm is a little thick and that 2mm would have been better. I could feather it but as a total beginner my thoughts are to keep it as simple as i can . I will get the 1.5mm at the samee time

Cheers

Thanks Tony. I wasnt sure if it would affect something further on. Didn't think it would but thanks for the confirmation, much appreciated

I'm thinking I have come across my first major mistake but may have a solution I hope and your advice would be greatly appreciated . I'll start with the photos

Nothing is fitting around the cowling area, I've been studying the drawings and still don't see the problem but studying your photos I think I have set the triangular piece that butts to F1 to high then placed a 6mm stringer along the bottom. Also it all finishes flush at the front. I don't think this is correct as the 2 cowling pieces don't fit inside.

If I'm right on this I think the solution s to cut this triangular piece to fit. Hope this makes sense to you and you can advise.

Thanks Jim

Managed some time today to carry on with the fuselage. Think i got the upper rounded stringer right.

Thanks Tony. I'll give it a go. I've got the kit to do it so will just take my time and see how I get on.

By the way your build is looking really good, thumbs up

Hi Tony

A little help please if you could. I bought the wood kit but am still waiting for some of it to be delivered. On the 6th of March you posted a photo and corresponded with Chris over the centre stinger that runs from F3 back. Is this made up of a 6mm stinger with triangular bits on each side. Or is it 6mm x3 sanded an planed to shape. If its triangular these could be some of the wood im waiting for.

Thanks

Jim

Todays progress. Mainly thank goodness there is only one F5 because it has stretched my patience a little but hopefully sorted and left to harden overnight. The rest seems ok. 20190316_173953.jpg

Looking good Pete. Thanks to you and Tony for putting out the photos of the instrument panel. There is no way i would have thought to prepare it this early. Just finished painting and gluing mine on the dining room table before swmbo came home from work and caught me.😇

Thanks Pete. I have gone Tony's route and cut the overhang off, but can see how the flange piece would add stability. I'm thinking I could put a stringer into the corner for a little added strength if needed. I will have a look later.

Thanks for your advice

Jim
