Thread: Cruiser, November 2015 Free Pull out plan
20/02/2019 17:55:14

My cruiser build has been going slowly with the fuselage built ready for covering, then disaster, when searching for some ply to make the sanding jig for the blades I lost my balance and managed to sit on the fuselage crying

Thread: Are all watts created equal?
14/02/2019 10:45:17

The difference that matters is the rated KV ( rpm/volt) of the motors so for the same power the higher KV will produce higher rpm. with a finer pitch prop.

The couple who were arrested have now been released without charge but not until after their names and photographs were plastered all over newspapers. That should get a few legal aid lawyers rubbing their hands together.

I believe there are regular patrols of the airfield to keep the runways and taxi ways clear of 'foreign objects' perhaps they should also carry shotguns to keep drones away.

Thread: Using Ammonia.
28/11/2018 10:06:05

Diluted to about the strength of window cleaner(or you could use window cleaning stuff) If you try it with neat ammonia the fumes will be a bit much so would need to do it out doors.

Thread: Hanging planes on the wall
19/11/2018 16:09:28

I would never hang IC models nose down as the clunk will sit folded back and may stick that way, nose up lets the clunk pipe keep straight.

Thread: Altered my clock.
30/10/2018 10:24:51

I always leave my car clocks set to GMT, too much trouble to change and would be happy to keep to GMT if everyone else would.

Great, Ordered .

28/10/2018 14:29:38

After 2years with no flying (wife's illness) and with 2 models built but not flown I felt I had to do something so decided to build an autogyro. With plans for Panther and Cruiser to choose from I remembered buying a set of blades for the Cruiser so, decision made I started cutting all the ply formers then checked with HK for the C30 head assembly. The heads are no longer available ! Does anyone know of an alternative source or do I have to make my own, based on the Panther unit?

Thread: Motor mods to old Ripmax P-51 mustang ARF
18/10/2018 12:31:40

You may be able to make a new motor clamp which would mount further forward on the beams and would need cutting away to clear the cables ? Are there any mounting holes on the motor rear face? if so these could also be used.

All that place needs now is a flying field next door then it would be perfect.

Thread: Laminated wing tips
09/10/2018 12:34:47

Formers for laminating can be from - depron, hardboard, balsa(scrap bits), cardboard, or just lots of pins. Clingfilm between formers and laminations to stop the balsa strips sticking to the former.

Thread: When modelling money saving goes too far...

I guess we all have balsa 'scrap' boxes thinking that bit is too big to bin but at what size do we draw the line. Same also applies to brushed motors, wheels, wire. tube, bits of covering film etc, etc .

Thread: Battle of Britain: Model Squadron
27/09/2018 12:58:59

The Wright stuff wrote

"Sorry, but no. That is a myth. Spreading garbage like this is a discredit to the hobby.

What the Handbook ACTUALLY says is:

Article 94 (166) IoM 97, (Small Unmanned Aircraft)
(1) A person shall not cause or permit any article or animal (whether or not attached to a parachute)
to be dropped from a small unmanned aircraft so as to endanger persons or property

[my bold emphasis]

My original post was meant 'tongue in cheek' so if you took it too seriously sorry, However I seem to recall some time ago attending a model show where the toffee drop was called off for H&S reasons, I suppose they were afraid of the kids getting a humbug in the eye.'

Relax folks its a hobby and we do it for fun.

Peter ,as they say ,nothing ventured, nothing gained. I bet there are some with 3D printers looking at the idea, and may come up with an answer. at least the seed is sewn.

Thread: Battle of Britain: Model Squadron

I thought the whole thing was well done, Just think what it would have been like if the 'three stooges' from Top Gear had been involved. They would have taken the micky and made the whole thing a juvenile joke. As an example just check out James May's thing about micro cars on BBC4, when he started firing rifles and SMGs at 2CVs and Renault 4s I had to switch off.

Thread: Mix and Match

Sounds like another case of 'Guidelines' being interpreted as 'Rules'
