Finally got all the wood I need and the 2X plan so all I need to do is extend the building board and tidy up the garage so that I have somewhere to work. So that will be another 2-3 weeks then

I Have a TT42 in a fun fly model and have to say that it has been good. I have had it from new, it has not had a huge amount of running but it has never missed a beat.

I quite like the look of the large amount of dihedral so I will stick with my 7" each side.
Thanks for the update.

Oh I was planning to double that 3 1/2" to 7 inches under each wing tip. May be I should think again.......

Watching with interest Sparks.I was just looking at the tail plane incidence on my plan and was wondering if it should be reduced a bit (not sure how) but yours looks the same as my plan. Does it fly OK like this?

When a plan (Popsie) gives a dihedral of say 3 1/2" is that under each wing tip or the total?

Is "C" grain balsa sheet for making ribs?
15/07/2010 19:37:54
I have the 2X plan now. It looks big and I will need to extend bu building board a touch by adding a sheet of paster board to the top. Plan on going to Balsa cabin to get some supplies tomorrow. Just about to spend some time lookin over the plan and listing what I need.

I think there is a bit of a resurgence in interest in these old timers (well there is in my club) they are so relaxing to fly. It would be great if you could do a thread on your Popsie build it would help me a lot.

I have not had a chance to get back to my CRRC so not further info from me. It's interesting that you get good results with Super grade?
Thread: Ouch - This week's crash...
11/07/2010 11:21:31
I am the same as you Simon. I always wait a couple of weeks before throwing away a crashed model (unless I hate it) only then can I look at it dispassionately  and make a considered decision about its future.

Darren, what is your plan for running in this motor? You seem to running it at a low throttle setting when it is usual to run new ABC engines at high speed to get them up to operational temperature ASAP. This may also be the reason for the vibration because the motor will be very stiff at TDC until it is at operational temp. Did the motor come with any running in instructions?

The original is a 3 spar wing with no webbing between the top and bottom spar and no D box to the leading edge, accept for the center section. I think this will need to be strengthened on the 2X.

Is a spruce spar much stronger than a hard balsa spar. If I go for spruce can I use smaller cross section timber?

I visited Selc at Wings and Wheels and they said the were waiting for the 48" lengths to come in. They may well have got it now. Thanks for the info.
