Thread: New EDF Mini Jets- Jet Provost & Folland Gnat

Martin

I am mode 1 too.. right hand launch not an issue if kept flat and level. The normal initial dip can be controlled with elevator on left stick

Of the 3 the provost is the worst to get away and definitely needs a good shove. The gnat is the easiest and the hunter close to the gnat

Hi Dick,

Lovely looking model and great news on the flight.. flew mine again last night and the Hunter.

The Gnat is still the one I like the best

Wow .. fantastic job Lucas... told you the repair would be not too difficult. The beauty of wood models and a great design . It will be great to hear it’s back in the air again

Hi Lucas... opps on the flight BUT ...take 3 positives the model flys well, the cause of the crash is being unlucky with the site ...and the model looks straightforward to fix

i have had many models like this and it’s the great thing about wood builds with splinters like that🤣. Some wood glue on those splits and a great wetter area . The repair will be stronger that the original . You will soon be back in the air.
Keep it in close, keep the speed in the turns , smooth and wide and enjoy. My favourite by far. Until the baby Hawk is finished

Adding cooling slots might be ok but the fus is rather packed with equipment so I doubt the airflow would be enough to add significant cooling to battery

if our 2 models are a judge then power is not an issue with this model . It cruises on half power so limit the battery current draw with throttle - you will get better flight times as well.

It’s slippery like the Gnatt so just go and enjoy

HiStu,

On both my Hunters shown on the group pic the standard 2200 3s pack fitted but only after about 25mm 'U' shape slot was cut out of the front of the wing. Without this it would not go in !!

I mailed Tony and he said he cut a slot.. which was not on the plan or I missed it.

With the battery as far forward in the fus on the mounting plate it was too nose heavy.. with the battery against the wing it was tail heavy. So I then moved to the correct position for balance. This meant there was a gap of approx 40mm in front of the battery for mine.

I then cut a piece of solid Blue foam, in the section of the battery, and slid this into the fus first. Then the battery and it was stopped at the right position.. sorted

So , finally got the the field yesterday to maiden my Hunter and the second one I built for a friend.

Great day and both models flew fine once CoG set and some small trims. They fly similar to the Gnat, flast and smooth with only half power to cruise.

A couple of wake up calls with tip stalling in slower turns but that's the pilot and not the model.. keep it smooth and with a little speed in the turns and all good... cheeky

I would not worry about the flying - this model is fantastic. On the cockpit I would add a little, it make such a difference yesimg_3300.jpg

Build a TN Gnat... flys straight off the building board without problems and saves all the rebuilds .. impressive patience
