Thread: Its a what?

Of course, with that layout, it might even have been a Moulinex Mixmaster, perhaps! I wonder if that's where they got the idea?
I'm gonna have to try harder, Gemma

I wasn't very good with radials - I looked at the Twin Wasp too and couldn't match it with the piccies I found
How about this one, then? Sorry about the cast...........

Handed back with much relief, Gemma! I do have some street-cred to maintain, you know..........

Anyway, I'll have to hang my head over that one - as you can see from here the Curtiss is remarkably similar. Looking again, the tail profile differs, the inter-plane struts don't have the same stagger..........oh, bah, humbug

Ok Phil, I believe it is an Army-Curtiss Racer (No.2?), winner of the 1922 Pulitzer Trophy at Detroit.

Well done, Peter - seems they had some problems with the NACA cowl. Interesting article here. One can perhaps see with these designs some influence on 30's modellers' ideas.

I'll leave this for you all overnight..........
28/02/2009 00:56:02
Well, I was hoping to have an early night but you know how it is..................
It's a Lightning F53 ZF581, at BAE Systems, Rochester Airport, displayed in 56 Sqdn 'Firebirds' markings. Served with Royal Saudi Air Force and then BAE Warton.
I must get out more

Oh dear, I think I've just confirmed what my OH has long thought!
27/02/2009 23:42:02
Oh, and it's the RAE colour scheme - I worked there back in the very early 70's - much of it gone now, though

Buccaneer S.2C XV344 at Farnborough, 22nd March 2003!

Not sure that's playing ball - looking up the reg, young Ben - but I admire:
a) your initiative, and
b) your restraint
27/02/2009 22:22:09
Oh, in case Gemma gets it too quickly, what is it sheltering beneath?
27/02/2009 22:20:37
Ok, another one for you, folks - unusual control system on this:

27/02/2009 20:30:31
Wouldn't be Southampton, would it, Ben?
27/02/2009 00:42:42
Ok, Gemma, spot on - and your supplementary question is:
Can you name the janitor?
A bit of an ugly duckling, I think but its usage as a drone is pretty interesting. I don't know if it has ever been modelled - does look a bit sport model-ish, doesn't it? Lots on the web including here
26/02/2009 23:21:04
Ta Gemma,
Thought it was too obvious and surprised it lasted that long! One flew over my place in France a couple of months ago - must have been a premonition!
Anyway, it's about time I offered one up so here goes:

Strikes me you need some comfort out there on that windy rock, Timbo. Could you bolt this to a benchmark, perhaps?
Thread: Flycam-one

Hi Ken,
Nice pic - better quality than most I've seen from the Flycam. Surprising what editing can do to improve the raw image. Certainly gives me cause for greater consideration in the future.
However, I'd be very careful about publishing photo's like that - I can see what appears to be a line of small circles heading up from the bottom helipad towards the end of the strip. Next thing you'll know is that geophys will be all over the field and Mick will be putting in a couple of trenches across the runway!

It's like the woodman's trusty axe, Erfolg - four new heads and three new handles
