Thread: DX6i - AR500 snags
Gordon, send your Tx back to horizon along with the Rx. They will update the firmware on both free of charge and not charge postage back. They had issues with AR500's losing bind and they solved this with the update. I sent all mine back as i had 9 at the time and got them all back in 3 days, two of them having been replaced with new ones. Horizon are great with customer support. go to the website first and give them a call they are real nice people and will help you as much as they can. It is worth it not losing a model or hurting someone with an out of control one.
Thread: Local model shops - do we support 'em?
We only have one true R/C shop that i know of in my town so it has no competition. They charge over inflated prices for goods i can get online from other uk based stores for cheaper. They (being the owners) are predominently car enthusiasts and race themselves so much of the shop is dedicated to that side of the hobby. They are always willing to get parts in if they can if they dont stock them but again they are at exagerated prices. They recently took delivery of a couple of eflite ARTF's which were shelved at £45 above the price i paid for the same plane delivered from Sussex MC. Support your LMS yes i agree so long as you are not being ripped off. D

Thread: Hobby King / Art-Tech 1355mm Mosquito
Gonzo, do you have a link to the retracts bit on RC Groups? Mine bind something terrible
Looking them both over there does not seem to be much difference looks wise maybe different markings but all else looks similar.
I had this same confusion
Graham, Talking to the chap i bought this off he changed the props for more substantial ones (as you can see on the pics at the end of my video) as the stock props gave very little performance and it only just got around the sky. Having viewed the stock props i can imagine one snapping off, they are a bit flimsy for the bulk of plane they pull around, Change them is my sugestion.
I must point out at this point that the video Nigel has placed on this thread does not do this plane justice.
A few things to point out:-
When i took this video it had already tip stalled and survived a hard cartwheel with only the tip coming off the starboard wing and a little attention to the horizontal stab which is anhedral by the way! dont know if it is supposed to be? It will not fly at slow speeds and the reccomended 3s lipo will only give 5 minutes tops. My comment about thanx for the glue at the end (which is not videoed) was that as we prepared to turn in for approach the U/C was deployed and the plane lost all power and death spun into a nearby field snapping the port wing off at the nacelle damaging the retract bay doors (which are very vulnerable by the way) and knocking the tail loose. With the help of some epoxy and light ply rods the wing is now ok the retract bay doors are fixed but i fear they will get knocked on every landing and i have ordered some 4s 5000mAh. I may even try 2x 3s 2200mAh 1 for each motor see how that goes.
When its up and on full throttle it sounds great and flys really well, It would benefit from flaps but then you are pushing the servo count to probably 9 - 10. I also have a switched ubec on to regulate the power at 6v for the AR7000 Rx.
This is a classic iconic WW2 plane and instantly recognisable in the air. This is a good stand off scale representation and you get a lot of plane for your money. I just reccommend you go for the biggest battery possible and give yourself plenty of spare time for landing it.

Thread: Podium RC
I have to jump into PodiumRC's defence here. As you say they list every possible part for almost every model you can think of but dont always keep that item in stock, (that would be a massive warehouse) but withmy experience they do everything they can to get it in, even if this takes longer. Sometime its the only place to get a bit you need.
I owned an Eflight P47 "jug" (the real old one) and a model shop sold me a dodgy batch of foam safe CA which melted the horizontal stab. They could not get hold of a part as the model was discontinued, Podium sourced this part direct which i could not have done and did it at a rock bottom price. I tried several other stockists who would not or could not source the part i needed.
