Thread: Flair ?

The main problem in building flair models from the plan is getting the correct sizes for the cabanes and undercarriage wires. There are no 'true length' dimensions on the plan. The semi kit doesn't appear to include these parts, a template would be ideal and make the kit a good buy.

Thanks for that, Geoff. Are you using a smaller wheel? the plan says 3.25" and the oleo spec says max of 2.75".

This is the next model on my 'to do' list. Just finishing off a Veron tomtit and a Brian Taylor Cessna 120.

Looks good. Where did you get the oleos from?

I'm building one at the moment. Fus is glassed and I'm just finishing the wing ready to cover. I've also gone electric.

What retracts have you planned on using?

Unfortunately I wrote mine off a couple of months ago, my fault, too slow turning back into wind and stalled it in. It flew really well on 3S and a cheap emax motor. The ground handling wasn't as bad as many people are saying. I tended to get it airborne quickly but then climb out slowly to look more scale like. I intend to build another from the plans.

If you want to build, then the Brian Taylor Kingfisher is an option.

I've electrified mine, so seepage isn't a problem. Just ordered some profilm.

Thanks for the info, David and Jim.

11/06/2018 11:24:52

Thanks for that, Jim.

Did you put the silver on top of the fabric covering or butt joint it?

I'm just about to cover my tomtit. What did you guys use to simulate the metal at the front of the fuselage?

Thread: 3D-RC

Has anyone had any dealings with a company called 3D-RC who are near Oxford? I placed and paid for an order for helicopter blades over 2 weeks ago and have had no confirmation or replies to my emails. I believe it is run by someone called Will Beasley.

Do you chaps spray the whole model with one colour first and then overspray the second colour, or spray each area as patches? Does giving a second coat cause any problems?

Hi Danny,

The Chippy looks fantastic. Still taking a break from mine! What type of primer do you use, cans or airbrushed?

25/02/2015 09:43:43

Hi Danny,

Many thanks for the superb pics. At some point I will finish the Chipmunk, even if it means building a new wing.

The download was very straightforward.

Hi Danny,

Not been near my computer for the weekend. If it's not too late I'd appreciate the pics.

Thanks Danny, I've been eyeing up the Iwata RG3, but can't really justify that kind of outlay. It looks as though it would do the whole range of jobs.

I have an Aztek airbrush which I bought about 10 years ago and has sat there unused until now. The set comes with interchangeable nozzles of various sizes up to 1.2mm. It was fine for doing the fuselage roundel, but wasn't up to the wing ones.

14/02/2015 15:43:15

Thanks for the compressor /spray gun advice Danny. Just bought the TG2 gun and a 2hp compressor.

Sprayed the white roundel and really pleased. The only problem is that I used Tamiya acrylics for the white coat and it's costing a fortune for the little pots, which hardly cover the bottom of the spray gun.

I wonder if using warbird paint for the red and blue would react with the dried white acrylic?

Anyone any thoughts?

Apologies to Danny, it's not my intention to hijack this thread.

Hi Danny,

Good to see the progress. What type of paint do you use?

I'm currently trying to paint roundels on a Flair Puppeteer, but only have an airbrush. I'm using Tamiya acrylics but they seem to need loads of coats to get a build up of colour, particularly the white. Spraying is completely new to me.

I may have to invest in something to give a larger spray area.
