Thread: RCM&E Vector March 2016 free plan

Don't Know what went wrong but the Vector Album has gone to no mans land for now

A little Update Majority of Balsa purchased yesterday and made a start on wing panel template last night. Made two wing panels this morning along with WR piece. Tried doing a build blog but photos all over place so they are in an Album. Would be interested in tips on how to feather the wing down I have a razor plane and sanding blocks but this looks time consuming. I have a belt sander and thinking of fixing to bench and taking majority of wood away before final finishing by hand

So taken the plunge and ordered a motor rated at 1400kV around 200 watts as is mentioned in Mag .

Looks like a trip to Leeds Model Shop for some balsa tomorrow need to make a basic list out later they have some 4"wide listed

Lets see what happens

04/10/2019 15:27:15

Not gone away still looking for a suitable motor. Just E Mailed George at 4 Max

Have found a DYS 2812 1200kV rated upto 200 watts

Should I be looking for a higher reving motor ?

I like the look of the Mini Blitz as an alternative in your photo album

So having read the thread three times checked the plan etc three times read the mag three times just been in hanger to double check motor spec and its not going to happen. My motor is 1150 Kv and needs at least 9" prop to deliver 1100 grams thrust

30/09/2019 12:28:50

Just clearing some mags out in hanger and came across this one . Looks like it's the next model for me may take a month or so due to other commitments

Thread: Broken servo arm screw
27/08/2019 21:20:22

Some 12 months ago I bought a second hand Seagull Harrier that someone had converted to electric and had fitted Corona midi servos. Unfortunately I found out that out of the five fitted in various areas they had all broken on the flange where the screws held them in place. Not sure if it was mishandling or a bit of UV making them brittle in this area

Thread: Acro Wot Alternative
27/08/2019 20:57:22

I lost my 6 year old ARTF Acro Wot a month ago and searched the internet but none available for last 12 month. My alternative would have been various Seagull brands ( Airtek Hobbies seem to have some stock ) last alternative was the Kyosho Calamato the one with better covering . I had numerous 46 two strokes available and finished up with an ARTF Wot 4 to replace my aging one and that must have been one of the latter ones available

Happy Searching

Thread: Possibly going all electric, which motors should I use?
25/08/2019 12:20:50

I have to agree with Nigel R. I get more fun out of a £19 gallon of Laser fuel than an equivilant lipo battery

It is horses for courses and we all have our own opinion

I do have an Easy Street and electric pylon racer both fun to fly but time restricted

Thread: Balsa skin on wing
16/08/2019 19:02:23

I once built a french model glider that needed curved ribs skinning and the tip was to get all set, glue up ribs cover with balsa and cover the balsa with something like RCME Magazines or other similar magazines that followed the curves perfectly weighing down the balsa

Thread: Single servo ailerons
16/08/2019 14:15:51

I am reading all the responces thank you all. Appreciate I did have a control set up slightly higher than should be without my usual expo set up for my flying routines.

And without going off on another tangent is more up than down a better set up with a single or two servo set up ?

I have over 20 plus years building and flying IC models and tamed them all but this one is not to my liking as yet

Thanks again for all your inputs

15/08/2019 07:26:47

Wow what have I done I was only asking if I was to mod my servo horn to give more up than down was that the correct way? As is said in other topics ask 6 modelers this question you get 8 options.

Thanks to all who have responded on my aileron question. At present I have found my original circular horn for futaba servos but have hirec servo fitted.

I am going to reset the settings back to plan recommendations 3/16 to 1/4 on see how we go. as said earlier some how I was at 5/16 with no expo to soften the sticks

14/08/2019 11:39:43

Just in case I did not make myself clear I think this kit was built some 8+years ago with a modeller who followed the plans. So it came with the single servo option and torque rods fitted I have a feeling with the finish it was covered in balsaloc and then some heavy duty covering.  My start point on expo is -30% and then I go up or down to suit the model characteristics and my style of flying

Happy days when I get this one trimmed out

Looking at the size of the airelons on the wing I think a mini servos may struggle under load I have two midi servos in the workshop that would do the job just need to check the output specifications
