You're over thinking it FB3wink

As long as you do the same prep and checks as you would do with your old radio, jobs a good un teeth 2

You don't test-fly all your individual new servos, do you? If you were being ultra-safe and excessively 'correct', fb3, it would be prudent to test the model with a tried and trusted radio combo - and the radio combo on an expendable hack. smile

Statistically, I wouldn't think the likelihood of something untoward happening is much higher whichever way you do it.

If you think about, the majority of newbies find themselves in exactly that position - new model and radio - and a system failure in either is probably the least likely cause of a maiden mishap!

What i would suggest is watching out for black cats and ladders en route to the patch, though....wink 2

Don,t see why not, after all this is how most beginner's start. All preflight check's should be carefully done more than once.

Yes I would agree with the above, give it a good power down range check both static and running & what could possibly go wrong.

Hope it goes well J...

Of course you are all right. How time flies and dulls the memory. 35 years ago my club mate maidened my first build Yamamoto, with my brand new Futaba Challenger radio. No problem at all. Thinking back now I can still remember the thrill as it landed. LoL. Thanks all

Nice one John, I think I am the last golden oldie to convert to 2.4Ghz in the club. It will still take time to remember that I do not need my faithfull No 71 peg. Ha Ha

I would only say that should you do the maidens, double your range check. And get someone to double check the throws and C of G.

Good luck

I certainly don't test fly all my new servos, but I do put them on continuous cycle on my servo tester for 15 minutes or so.

Yes, me too, Percy, after a couple of Vigor servos I installed straight from the box just kept getting hotter and hotter instead of doing something!

Like you, very few failures but they're well worth catching beforehandsmile

I have /had the same dilemma. Got a new 14sg for Christmas and a couple of 2008 and 7008 rx to put in my planes.

Also have a new Spot On 50l and Radion Pro to maiden.

I must admit I have put a new 2008 into my older Acrowot Foamie and will test fly the new 14sg on that.

Its just peace of mind, that if the radio works, then im settled.

cheers Dave p
